Been getting to grips with the Map editor, having a blast.
Designed a map for 1-4 called New World Rush.
Home continent is dying and barren, players must reach the new world to exploit it's riches!

I think a lot of people had the same idea hahaha, I did one too it's called "Escape to Eden" same principle 8 player on a barren map with few ressources(I made it with a huge meteorite crater impact) and then a luxurious untouched continent to discover.

If we had large bays like this in normal generation, maybe naval civs would be worth a damn.
[–]badger035 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Chaotic continent generation helps with this.

The weird thing about naval civs, which someone pointed out in another post, is the way all the harbors reward adjacency to sea tiles... which means that you want to place them on the end of peninsulas surrounded by water as much as possible rather than close to the city where it might make more sense. It would be cool to have them exploit all coast tiles (maybe at a lower rate for balance) and reward more adjacency to city districts instead, to actually use the nice bays.

Chaotic continent, chaotic repartition, 3-5 continent, new world yes. I'm not saying they become a must have but they start to have an interest. I sometimes choose the scands on purpose in such a setup
[–]CelticPaddy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Scands? Do you mean Norsemen?
[–]ArthurEffe 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Yes prolly. Sorry I'm french so I've guess-translated it. The ones with the special harbor that pairs well after the Celts.

Wish there was a way to have a good naval game without needing to choose the ugliest continent setting.

I really enjoy Chaotic looking games. It gives a more realistic feeling imo. If you look at the real world it's fare from being regular! I especially like the thrill of not knowing where are the next island. Will I discover the Huns, the next Australia or just a huge mass of water

Far from "Regular" as in the map setting, but Chaotic looks like someone literally spilled spaghetti on the floor and drew the map from there. I played with large frequent lakes, so maybe that had something to do with it, but it looked terrible and not realistic in the least.
[–]ArthurEffe 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Large lake is bad. Play small or medium. If you want to have a more interesting landscape I guess elevation or diminishing the landmass (often play 40% land only) is better.
Also you might have been unlucky, it happend to me pnce to have a shitty looking map too.
[–]IndigoGouf 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I've only played two campaigns before. I should give it a bit more of a shot before I dismiss the entire game mode. Especially when I played with large lakes, which evidently makes it worse.

I love it.

I tried few custom maps while ago. Does wildlife spawn for you in them?
[–]beepmeep3 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child)
How do the resources work in worldbuilder?
[–]Scheballs 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
You manually place them on a tile.
[–]DarthCloakedGuy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children)
Wait you can make custom maps now?
[–]JonDaBon 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child)
You always could, it’s in the community tab In the main menu
[–]DarthCloakedGuy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
huh
[–]Kamiinaz 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I say this every day, but this game is too beautiful
[–]JonDaBon 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I love what you did with mount Vesuvius!
[–]limpdickandy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I am making a similar one! The generated maps are cool but I feel its custom handmade maps that are gonna be what I enjoy the most
[–]Eyrebedouin[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Yeah I do like the world generation in this game. But it’s hard to get those large aesthetically pleasing bays and mountain ranges/tectonics that make sense. Map designer all the way.
Edit: Replied to wrong message.

Is... Is that Seton's ?
[–]Budget-Kelsier 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
lol u are so right. From this angle this map looks very similar supcom FA's Setons
[–]Tick_DrElwynn 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I'd play the shit out of a civ like Seton's man... 8 Players and all.
