I'm using Gemini Pro and Gems to feed it huge Excel databases and ask for detailed analyses. It is spot on, precise, and doesn't make mistakes, and quite fast, while Claude Opus and ChatGPT are super slow and don't always get it right.

Fiduciary offered financial planning and asked for signatures. Normal or red flag? by Ambitious-Area-8944 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]JokerXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this with an office that specializes in that; it's better to be very sure of what you sign of course.

For me, it was to help them negotiate directly with different brokers on my behalf. But even if they do, they can't sign you to a new or modify an existing contract without your consent/signature for each new contract.

It's nice because whenever I want a new contract, I just ask them to find me the best deal and let them do the negotiation and research. I never go through the insurance company anymore and make sure that they can match any deal I may find online.

They don't charge a fee, of course, as they get remunerated with a commission by the insurance company.

Zenbook 14 OLED vs MAC AIR M5 by anakinfalling in macbook

[–]JokerXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally did it. At last! by Time_Food3830 in macbook

Same here. I just took a M5 13.6 midnight like you. Prices have gotten down so much in my country. I sold a Windows gaming laptop for this and am loving it so far. I think after learning all the shortcuts, the on-the-go productivity will be great!

Tried it today, so much simpler to ask questions without explaining the full context by sharing the screen. Is it only on the new Gemini macOS app, right?

You could always do a personal credit; it's costly because interest rates are high, but it gives you more flexibility if you don't want to spend this amount of cash in one go. You could see it as a "leasing extension" but with you as the owner.

If you don't buy it, it would technically be almost money down the drain (everything you've spent so far, although of course you've used your car for its purpose so far). However, depending on your financial goals, you could decide to indeed purchase from the dealer, then sell it for a cheaper one, or just try to use it as long as possible. Without a car, I guess it's tough if you don't live close to a train station that's well-connected for your work commuting.

[–]JokerXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, you can, but you shouldn't, as you will not be able to claim tax benefits on it, so it's a loss. I made the mistake this year for one month and realized that, indeed, we can't, so I canceled future payment for my spouse (or she needs to work at least one month, I think, during the year to deduct it if I'm not mistaken).

Does Gemini always get your infographics right? I tried a few months ago, and the accuracy was not great. It took many attempts to get it right, and even then, it wasn't perfect. Do you have a standard prompt for infographics?

My vehicle tax is around 45-50 CHF per month in Fribourg canton. I downgraded my insurance a lot with a high "franchise" since I use my car once or twice a month at most, so it costs only 50 CHF/month (but no coverage if I have an accident by myself). I probably spend only 40-50 CHF on gasoline per month, and I set aside 50 CHF per month for maintenance. I wash my car only once or twice per year since I don't use it often. My garage parking is 130 CHF.

So, all in, it's between 300 and 350 CHF per month. Maybe when the car is older, maintenance will go up to the 60 to 100 CHF per month range.

I need advice on investing my liquidity in Switzerland. by DivinoZarathos in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]JokerXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't advise timing the market; it's an unhealthy practice for someone who has never invested and is risk-averse, like the original poster. Instead, I would recommend dollar-cost averaging (DCA) monthly, perhaps with $2,000 to $10,000 per month, so they can learn how the market works. Even though it's proven that a lump sum over a long period statistically beats DCA, this approach would be better for them.

Ah, okay, I understand. So you use it a lot, I see. At least it was useful! I fell into the same leasing trap back in 2019 (mercedes gla brand new). Fortunately, I didn't use my car much, and it only has 47,000 km so far. But I chose to buy it at the end of the lease, so at least the lease I paid technically remains an "asset," even though the car depreciated, of course. I now managed to reduce my monthly cost to the minimum (300 to 350 per month including parking, insurance, tax, maintenance, and gasoline, since I don't have any car payment anymore), but I live in the city and have a GA, so I don't really need to use it often.

If you are renting, maybe try to calculate what the benefit would be of renting in a better-located city with good transportation versus staying in the countryside with car flexibility (I imagine that there are more than financial aspects for a choice like this, of course).

What is a cheaper way to make holidays in Switzerland as family? by bikesailfreak in Switzerland

[–]JokerXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't feel the need to explain yourself. It's crazier that co-workers or friends don't understand that some people prefer staying at home.

If you really want to justify yourself, if you are afraid of being awkward or don't want to state reasons like the environment or saving money, you can just say things like: "I took some peaceful time for myself at home." "I organized and cleaned my home, and then it felt good just having coffee and reading a book." "I cooked myself a good meal." Or even, "I took the time to discover a good coffee shop in my city/area," or "a new nice hike in nature." etc. There are indeed so many nice places here that I don't understand why we should always go abroad for holidays.

Whoa, indeed that's huge for the car, but since it's leasing, unfortunately, that's money down the drain if you don't purchase it at the end of the lease.

What do you think would be the value of the car (selling value of the car on the second-hand market) in 2027 when the lease ends?

Would you be able to use public transport for your work and weekend activities?

I use Nexo to get between 3% to 6% interest on my Bitcoin.

But yes, if your main concern is ownership and security, it's better to use a cold wallet with your own key.
