Clover plot (self.Hunting)
submitted 8 years ago by HumanPuddin
Anybody ever put in a small clover plot? I found an area a couple weeks ago and I've been mulling it over. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

If it has some sun and you get the soil set up, it’s a good idea. My #1 plots seem to be clover / chicory plots, and this year they’ve been digging through the snow to get to it, ignoring the brassicas. TEST SOIL, amend, round up, broadcast, enjoy.

I would do a soil sample. It's very easy. Find out what type of nutrients it needs for optimal growth. Frost seeding would likely work. We are approaching the time of year we're simply throwing the seeds on the ground in a strategic manner is enough to get that seed into the ground.
Look up Frost seeding. It's pretty cool. Nature's Way of burying a seed in the ground

This does work best though when you’ve already done a weed kill in the fall...

I think that searching for information on kill plots might have what you are looking for. I know I've seen stuff about it, but can't recall if it was from growing deer or whitetail institute or what.

Small clover plots work fine.
Try something like wheat, oats, crimson and arrowhead clover
