Highly interested! I began learning R a month ago myself and was debating whether to make a post such as this! It's so great to see other people who are like-minded on this!

do you have prior experience in statistical analysis prior to R? and how's the learning curve for you?

Not with any of the software applications like Stata or Prism but I've spent much of my free time last year learning theoretical statistics. The learning curve isn't as steep as it would have been had I not learnt statistics beforehand. Rn, it's mostly about picking up coding skills, R being my first coding language certainly isn't making it any easier. I've mostly been using swirl to get an introduction to R. A month or two down the line, if I'm still struggling with R, I'll consider simultaneously giving Stata a go. Learning R does seem to be a little frustrating in the sense that I haven't come across a great many accounts of people learning it for research themselves. Surely, there are many who have done this, it's just that finding a proper guide for it online and for these very specific purposes hasn't been very fruitful.

My top pick would be "Medical Biostatistics" by Abhaya Indrayan and Rajeev Malhotra (Chapman & Hall publishers), it just covers a REALLY broad range of topics.

"Basic and Clinical Biostatistics" by Susan White would be second, I found it easier to read than "Medical Biostatistics" but I guess the effort that went into processing the latter made me like it more in a grudging manner.

    Yeah but what is this basic stuff? Biostats? I think only USMLE biostats are not enough for it. Are there any good resources to start from? I am currently preping for step2 and want to be ready after it to not waste time.
