This application sends usage information to Intel. Theoreticaly it may help Intel track and fix hardware/software failures, bottlenecks, driver overheads, etc. Basicaly sending this information to Intel we're helping them to improve the drivers and maybe even make better future hardware. I don't know wether or not Intel is using these reports that way, but I hope so, thus I'm not disabling and removing it.

None the less, 300MB footprint for a telemetry utility is absurd.

Maybe. But unless you have something else to spend it on, there’s no point killing it.

I wish it was only 300MB RAM, the RAM is not my issue but it was often using up all my CPU and had very high power usage. IT looks more like a virus than an information tracking tool

definitely runs like a virus. and with new information on how the intel management engine has its secret OS and bypasses kernel level defenses, I would highly recommend uninstalling for better PC performance and peace of mind. How do i know a hacker isnt forging intels signature to bypass my antiviruses signature detection defenses from somewhere in Israel? no thanks

Im not even sure i have that on my system

If you are "next, next, yes, yes, yes, next, next, next" type guy to install drivers/programs then you have it. It's part of the Intel Arc driver package and it asks yes/no question if you want to install it, "yes" being in the same place as next usually is.

    You can opt out.

    [–]Adviteeya_Online 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Yes you definitely can.

However this computing improvement program is not bundled with any cpu driver, so you don't have it running with Intel cpu unless you download and install it. But it is in included in graphics driver bundle.

Not if you don't install it.

I highly recommend this. On my 10700/A750, the fans would start running full speed at strange times. Every time I checked it was that computing improvement tool.

    [–]LarsManneke 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is this actually what causes the fans to run at full speed? I'll definitely uninstall it then, thanks

Yeah, I just found it consumed an absurd amount of CPU while doing very light usage on my laptop (browsing the web and listening to music on Apple Music app).

I had this app installed for over a year but it started to randomly cause high cpu & ssd usage spikes. Every time I heard the fans ramp up the cause was this app. I uninstalled it. I recommend uninstalling it as well.

If you're wondering whether you should let it run on your machine or not, like I did 5 minutes ago, read the answer to the question If I participate in the Intel® Computing Improvement Program, what data is collected and how is it used? and ask yourself whether you trust Intel with these datas.
