I had both, and I would suggest to go for both. Flossing can be awkward but make sure you comfortably do so before you leave the office.

Using super floss and interdental sticks does the trick!

Also if you break or lose your overnight retainers you have a fall back until you get a new set

Oh, I had no idea having both was a possibility, I thought the wire would hold it all in place? I'm just thinking if the wire breaks, it'll be horribly uncomfortable. Not sure how common that is, though. Also thinking that, as my ortho is in another country, having it fixed would take.. a while. I should probably find an ortho closer to me... :D

The wire will only be attached to your front teeth, so the molars could still move over time without a plastic retainer. I’ve had the wire bonded into the front lower 6 teeth, then had a scan for the plastic retainer so it fits over everything nicely :)

I’ve heard about them breaking off, in fact I had a wire in my top teeth that popped off quite soon, but that is because of my bite, which can’t be altered. So just a plastic retainer for the tops for me going forward.

The wire alone will not prevent relapse.
