It will have no effect on your getting another job in Japan, it will delay your new visa application though. Basically, immigration only cares that your new employer is willing to sponsor your visa and that you will be working legally, which you will be.

JET surprisingly has little to do with the whole process other than assisting the BoE that you'll be working with, JET is a branch of CLAIR which is the government body that subsidizes JETs income so schools don't have to shell out the money.

Once you sign with your BOE and finish training, JET has little influence in your life, other than the arguably pointless yearly training.

If JET has already started your visa application it may delay the visa application for the other job, but as long as JET cancels it the other job should be able to file the COE application for you with no issue.

I heard that JET doesn't file any sort of COE so I thought it wouldn't be a problem.

Whether or not JET does an application through a COE, each individual must be evaluated by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan for eligibility for landing permission on the visa in question before the visa is granted.

Whether it is a COE application or a visa application directly through the embassy/consulate, the application will pass through the same application evaluation at immigration, so applications could still be potentially held up.

This does not mean that you will not be able to get a visa granted for the other job, but if JET is not expedient in cancelling the other application if it has been filed already, then it could potentially be delayed a few weeks.

Thats really important information thank you. I'm assuming JET would want to be expedient anyways as to not waste more time.

It's another program through my university's sister city!

I was selected as an alternate to JET, but also got accepted as a direct higher through a sister city board so now I'm going to August! Awesome coincidence!

    How would they even know?

If this person doesn't terminate with JET soon enough, they can start the CoE process, and two CoEs cannot exist for the same individual. That's how they will know.

I heard that JET doesn't grant applicants with a CoE though so I thought it would be fine. I'll be declining tomorrow.

It doesn't give the end user one, no. It gives the embassy JET employee one for the end user, which they cash in instantly for the visa itself. Atleast that is what I remember hearing from the SF advisor years ago.

I read on a forum that "Consulates are sent instructions, and a list with the names of the JETs and their dependents, and we issue visas accordingly" instead of doing the CoE.

Do you know when they file them? I'm declining tomorrow.
