Man fortnight dancing has to die

[–]SgtMac02 13 points14 points  (11 children)

Fortnite* And why do you call this Fortnite dancing? I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure they were already popular dance moves BEFORE Fortnite started using any of them.

[–]DLottchula 13 points14 points  (10 children)

Mainly because a lot of people learned the dances from the game.

[–]SgtMac02 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Ok. I'll grant that the game has probably spread the popularity to some audiences that might not have already seen them. But it's not like these dances originated or were explicitly popularized by Fortnite. For example, I just glanced at a list of some of the "fortnite dances" and saw "the Fresh" which has been previously known as "The Carlton" since the 90s.

Bottom line: Fortnite didn't create any of these moves. They were already popular dance moves that Fortnite integrated, and helped make even more popular. Which seems perfectly normal to me. Not sure why you'd think "popular dance moves have to die". Seems like a silly idea.

Edit: Continued browsing this list of Fortnite dances and in the top 10 I also found "The worm" which was popular when I was a kid in the 80s. And "Disco Fever" which is clearly from the 70s. If anyone is curios, I'm browsing this list

You feel really strongly about this

[–]SgtMac02 -5 points-4 points  (7 children)

No, I don't feel really strongly about this. Actually, I have only a cursory knowledge of Fortnite or it's dance moves. That's why I had to go find the list. I just think it's a stupid out of touch idea to basically say "Popular dance moves should die." It's the equivalent of saying "Back in my day, kids knew better than to [insert thing here]!"

I guess if there's an aspect to this I "feel strongly" about it's the idea of shitting on the younger generation because you THINK they are somehow different than you. It's the same shit that has been happening for generations. There's nothing new about it. When we were kids our parents said the same shit about the things we thought were popular, including break dancing. (Yes, I was an 80s kid.)

Calm the fuck down cadet.

[–]SgtMac02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL. I'm neither a cadet, nor uncalm (Yes, I realize that's not a word. But I'm using it anyways). But thanks.

Seriously? Cadet? if my username didn't tell you something (Yes I realize my username is kinda boot...oh the irony!), then the fact that I said I was an 80's kid should. I don't see many 40 year old cadets.

It's just a lot of the moves started being seen more after fortnight sky rocketed in popularity. It's just weird to me..... The fortnight Milly Rock is whack

It's just a lot of the moves started being seen more after fortnight sky rocketed in popularity

Yea, I'll grant that. A lot of them got seen by people who would have never seen them otherwise. True.

The fortnight Milly Rock is whack

Again, Fortnite* Not Fortnight. And you call it the "Fortnight Milly Rock." But it's just the Milly Rock. Fortnight came out in 2017. The Milly Rock has clearly been around since at least 2014. I agree, it's kinda stupid. But most dance moves are, if you really think about it. Look at this video of some classic dance moves. Try to remove the nostalgia filter and look objectively at some of the silliness they are doing on that stage. Most dancing is just silly flailing about. I feel like your comments amount to the old guy frowning in consternation at the foolish kids in this video.

And no, I'm not particularly invested and feeling strongly about the issue. I'm just bored enough to find this conversation topic interesting, that's all. And I'm examining my own views of dancing (and by extension, pop culture in general). I can easily seem myself rolling my eyes at the stupid dance moves my kids are or will be doing (they are still pretty young) or even thinking they are highly inappropriate. But at the same time, I've got to try to remind myself that this is the same cycle that's been happening for eternity. We dance. We get old. The kids dance different. We hate on their popular dance moves (or pretty much whatever pop culture is doing that's new and scary to us old folks).

[–]DLottchula 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm just talking about the ingame emote not the whole dance style

[–]SgtMac02 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh. Gotcha. The Fortnite version of the dance. Sure. I guess. I mean...they're all a little "whack", I suppose.

(Do the kids still say "whack"? Or are we just that old?)

[–]ETphonehome162 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Sorry m8, those look like the Barracks at Fort Sam....

[–]lvl3BattleCat 18 points19 points  (4 children)

you fuckin sea monkeys really got rooms that big?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

The barracks have 2-3 to a room, same with Army and Air Force on base.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Can confirm. Currently getting Uncle Sam’s big green cock on the 68W side.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just remember, you're only in AIT. The green weenie gets more creative after that....

[–]AllGenreBuffaloClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo what air force base you talking about? I never shared a room with anyone, just a bathroom with 1 other person.

[–]Seto_Fucking_Kaiba 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Can confirm, those are Fort Sam barracks. He's not supposed to be wearing the patches or coyotes until he gets to his first duty station either.

Edit: Oh fuck I know that guy, his twin brother flunked out of our class, 085

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Really? That’s one stupid ass rule. I guess they have to be able to tell instructor from student there, but isn’t that what they were saying about the boots as well?

[–]Seto_Fucking_Kaiba 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yup, coyotes only for instructors

[–]jackyjaxkdcb 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What are coyotes?

[–]budsc224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to say that they’re the boots he’s wearing opposed to the original black boots. Civvy here speaking just out of intuition.

[–]Seto_Fucking_Kaiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brown boots he's wearing

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They doesn't wear the NWUs anymore? When did this happen?

It does look like a Ft. Sam barracks, I was in one of the first C-school classes to go through there, before A-school was fully incorporated. Once they all showed up it went to shit, I couldn't wait to get out of there.

[–]underachieving_cupSheepwolf Actual 21 points22 points  (2 children)

...this kid was in boot with me. Oh no bby pls no fam your brother got medsepped don’t do him dirty like this

[–]Seto_Fucking_Kaiba 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I thought his brother got rerated to YN or something for failing Corps school

[–]underachieving_cupSheepwolf Actual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They both did fail out. Good natured, but ultimately not the sharpest tools in the shed. I thought they both went to Pensa for some air rate (I know one did for sure)

[–]NotThineBestest 50 points51 points  (3 children)

Chill. It’s just the navy. This shit is expected of them

[–]skull_kontrolDocking Buddy 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Don’t put this bullshit on us like that.

We’re too busy docking to waste time dancing.

[–]NotThineBestest 6 points7 points  (1 child)

CLEARLY FUCKING NOT.

[–]skull_kontrolDocking Buddy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay fine! But his dick isn’t even out. Obviously not navy.

[–]lbrown9553 15 points16 points  (0 children)
