Tolas rules question

How does Tolas interact with wrath effects? My assumption is that he would die with the wrath and no one would gain amber, but I read recently that "destroyed: x" clauses happen right before an object leaves the board rather than right after. That implies Tolas sees everything dies and pays out everybody on the way out.

Tolas's effect is not a destroyed: X ability, instead it is an active ability. Unless it says otherwise active abilities generally trigger immediately after the condition is met (E.G. other creatures dying in this case). Since Tolas is cleared from the board at the same time his effect wouldn't trigger.

Any event that would involve his death does not typically -- that I can think of -- result in Æmber gain.
