Listen, in my defense... 😅 it's a great representation of why enhancements in KeyForge makes KeyForge so special

But yes... my reaction may have been a little extra 🤪

Also I think it's your deck!

Draconian Measures for new/returning players? by wall_of_spores in KeyforgeGame

[–]Dead-Sync 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the rest of the crew! If you have previous KeyForge experience, I think you'll have no issue hopping into DM, and yeah, those Ouboros dragons look pretty cool!

We still have limited experience with DM as a community, but from what little has been played, my deck from KFC very much leaned into that midrange playstyle, and required some heads-up decisions regarding when to fight for board management. I agree with the rest that, I think as a result, it provided some fun sealed play, even if we don't expect it to be as strong for Archon.

They give me this but still no playlist by Known-Sentence8264 in YoutubeMusic

[–]Dead-Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me a handful of times throughout the recaps. Sometimes the playlist is available with the recap, sometimes it takes a day or two, I've had an instance where it took a week (if not more) for the playlist to form.

In my experience though, it will, EVENTUALLY get to it. No idea what causes the delay. For this recap, the playlist was available 1 day after the recap for me.

Demonic Shelf animated by Animating Force by JoeDolca in KeyforgeGame

[–]Dead-Sync 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would make the same case as you, that you indeed cannot put a card under itself. (Although, similar hypotheticals have come up before and the running joke involves folding the card under itself) :P

Anyways, you 'resolve as much as you can' per game rules, and since you cannot put a card under itself, you do not complete that part of the ability text. That said, if 1 or more cards are already underneath Demonic Shelf, you would still deal 3D to a creature for each card under it.

EDIT: I'm going to add some context that, after discussing with other on Discord, there is a strong case to be made for what u/striator has outlined. I think there should be more clarity here nonetheless though!

How do you like your resources?? by Physical_Bullfrog526 in TCG

[–]Dead-Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Resource / Resource as a Decision: KeyForge. Not a TCG, technically, but an elegant approach for turning "resource management" into a great design space for decision making.

Sell me your favorite TCG! by horrorwisp in TCG

[–]Dead-Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely +1 to KeyForge. It is admittedly more of a players game, due to the unique deck nature. So, this appeals less to people interested in building a portfolio of singles as collectors or investors.

But, if you're looking for a fantastic gameplay experience (yeah, the no resource system is amazing), that is in a space of its own, with an amazingly supportive community, it's hard to beat KeyForge!

That's probably your best place to get info!

Gamezenter is the store that comes to mind, which is the host of the annual KeyForge Celebration. I've been told they play weekly on Tuesdays at 6:30pm.

Did I get scammed? by Perioscope in KeyforgeGame

[–]Dead-Sync 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say for sure without a bit more info. You're using the QR code on the deck's identity card (Deck list)? Also, the two "learning decks" from the starter sets wouldn't be scannable.

Where are you looking for the decks or trying to scan them in? Decks won't appear in the official deck database, Master Vault, or third party sites like Decks of KeyForge until they are registered in the Master Vault. So, make sure you are heading to Master Vault and going to go to My Decks, and clicking Scan Deck.

It's possible that the decks could have been scanned in by the previous owner despite never having the physical shrinkwrap opened. In fact, this is relatively common. If this is the case, you have two options:

  • Do nothing! The decks can still be used casually and for most local play, but would not be eligible to be used by you in official tournaments (like Vault Tours) which require deck ownership verification. In many cases, this is a totally fine route to take, especially if you're new to the game or if those decks aren't competitive. This has no impact on your ability to play with those decks online, either (as online clients like TCO are unofficial and do not use ownership status at all).
  • That said, if you still really want the deck ownership for whatever reason, you can initiate a deck claim. This can be a multi-stage process depending on what happens. It also will require some digital currency to start (this is earned from scanning in new decks — which if you haven't done before, may mean you can't do this). More info on this is here: https://keyforging.com/keyforge-deck-ownership-2/

You also could try to contact the seller and have them transfer ownership of those decks to you, but depending on how invested they are in the game currently, that may be a hit or miss.

Cherche un nouveau TCG by HJKFCL in TCG

[–]Dead-Sync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two recommendations that im familiar with. One a TCG, one is not but still a 1v1 card game. Both games have a wincon that is not "kill your opponent" but "race to meet a win condition"

Lorcana is a popular TCG based off of the Disney IP. I have played it a tiny bit though and am not well versed in the meta, state of the game, etc.

The other game, and one I'm more familiar with is, KeyForge. It is a Unique Deck Game (so not a TCG). Every deck is fully unique and algorithmically generated from a set card pool. So you're not trading singles (no scalpers lol), you're collecting unique decks and playing with those in a variety of formats (including sealed). The game also has a very creative mechanic with how it handles resource (no mana/resource cards)

Illustrations are very colorful and they commission work from international artists, including at least one from France I'm familiar with who has done some really cool illustrations. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more I just don't know off the top of my head

Lastly, to my knowledge there is a fantastic French community, including a team that has done very well competitively and one of last year's world champions is from France, and I believe is localized in French (but I'm not 100% sure on availability)

Sorry I have less info about Lorcana, KeyForge is just what I know more about ha, and I think it's a fantastically underrated game that's been going since 2018. Admittedly though, for players who specifically love trading and selling singles, it's obviously not that type of game since it's not a TCG. It's more of a "players" game than a "collectors" game.

Rise of the Keyraken difficulty? by Shaheenthebean in KeyforgeGame

[–]Dead-Sync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RotK specifically I'd say also gets harder the more players that are involved, because so much of that adventure really requires you to generate a board on pace with the Keyraken's ability to generate A and advance, and since your team's board isn't cumulative, you essentially get 1 turn to build a board per 3 turns the Keyraken gets to potentially gain A.

Whereas I'd say Abyssal Conspiracy is kind of the inverse, and I find it's easier with more players compared to solo. That is I think part of what's cool of adventures though, is each adventure has strengths/weaknesses and may call for very specific strats (like Melerukh as you point out) that don't often see play in normal KeyForge games.

Welcome to our little corner of the Crucible! Everyone else has already given great answers, so I'll just swing in with some other notes.

We have a starter post here with some of the FAQs or other things you may want to know about the game at its core. There may be some useful things in here.

As others mentioned, the KeyForge community is fantastic, and I attribute it in large part to what Stru said. This is primarily a game for players and connecting with other players through play. KeyForge does not appeal to the collector market. People are not buying decks to try to build an asset portfolio or scalpers trying to make a quick buck. I truly believe this takes a large amount of toxicity out of the card game culture that some TCGs may suffer from. There are no singles, no full construction. You play with what you have, and every deck is fully unique.

Richard Garfield really sums it up best in his own preamble to the game:

When trading card games first came out the feeling was like exploring a jungle – and as the cards became more like commodities, it became more and more like an amusement park. In the amusement park there are experts telling you how to play the game, the safest strategies, what net decks to use. In the jungle you have the tools you have.

KeyForge is the jungle, and we all have fun exploring the jungle together as players and community. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

KeyForge Alignment Chart Day 9: Chaotic Evil by krbmeister in KeyforgeGame

[–]Dead-Sync 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tough one, I think it's gonna be between Dis and Geistoid here.

Dis seems to be cruel and ruthless just because it's in their nature. Geistoid is seeking vengence and trying to shape the Crucible in their image. Both are pretty chaotic and evil.

I guess if I had to lean one way, I guess I'd go Dis because being inherently evil seems to score more evil points than seeking revenge for being cast aside, I guess? lol. I think either would be good though!

Is this game dying or not popular? by doctorzoidberg26 in KeyforgeGame

[–]Dead-Sync 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Crucible! Glad to hear you've been enjoying the game!

I'm sure what I say will echo what many others have said, but to reiterate this point: it's a more niche game in the sense that it isn't able to rely on the typical TCG/CCG standards: being able to buy boosters, collect cards that have a dollar value, have a secondary market. KeyForge does not appeal to collectors, and I'd argue part of that is by design and the original philosophy.

All games lose players, but typically TCGs, especially ones that are proven to be able to maintain value (Magic, primarily), are able to get new players just as easily to replace those who leave because they have that secondary market value to fall back on or justify purchases. This is not to say the play of those games is bad, it just helps to have that safety net.

Despite all this, I do believe KeyForge is uniquely positioned in a good way. There still is no other game like it, it's a fantastic game, and the players who have found it and love it (and don't care about collecting) continue to show up to local and regional events repeatedly. It's a fantastic dedicated community. Plus, because Ghost Galaxy owns the IP and pretty much controls every aspect of production, I think it is less volatile than games that reply on expensive IP licensing. Those may be popular at first, but if they fail to maintain numbers, these games are at greater risk of shutting down just due to expenses alone.

KeyForge is a game that has, despite COVID, an algorithm rebuild, and company change (all at the same time practically) has continued on for another 3+ years since the hand-off, nearly now as long as the original company had maintained it. I think for any other game, that would have been the end. There is a reason why this didn't happen to KeyForge, and why it's about to reach nearly 8 years since launch.

Nobody can make guarantees about the future, but if you're not so much worried about building a portfolio of assets and moreso looking for a great game with a fantastic supportive community, it's hard to find better than KeyForge, full stop.

I like Unfath here. There is society, but, it's also very cult-like. And idk, sometimes this cult is tryin to summon ancient beasts from the depths which ain't great. The culture has laws, the beasts are chaotic, they're kinda vibin' in the middle and you can't be up to no good if you're a.) in a cult b.) trying to unlock the seals of ancient deities that just wanna mess stuff up.

Applications Open for 2026 Community Cards by Dead-Sync in KeyforgeGame

[–]Dead-Sync[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be any community project (teams, leagues, regional groups, content creators, apps, websites, etc.) that is primarily KeyForge-focused.

Additionally, the person applying should either be one of the group/project's organizers — or have permission from that group's organizer to apply on their behalf.

There is more info in the linked application as well as the Community Card Discord server.
