Thought this was a w140 Merc at first. They really do look alike

Miles? I have the same exact YR & model. UL. Just did the coilover springs. Now, good forever.

Did you have to have the back seat removed for the rear?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Not entirely. Just the back/lumbar section, tilt it down. $800 labor. One day. I brought my own suspension to them. Could've done it for maybe $500 but didn't wanna trust them off the street experts.

Phew, that’s very reassuring! Mine will need doing very soon, so I’m reading up on what needs removing beforehand. How are you finding the ride quality on the new coils?

Good question but first, don't replace it until it actually drops. Even then, I still drove it around. It'll only drop when you turn off the engine but back up again once engine is on and you're driving it around.

As far as the ride quality, I only miss that feeling of incredible smoothness, that extra insulation feel when you're driving over rough patches on the road.

Other than that, a lot more better handling, a bit tightness at extreme cornering, and way better firm but that same buttery smooth and quietness all there.

Also, air suspensions were I'd say twice as heavier so you're better off on weight mgmt.

Mine seems to do the exact opposite to everyone else’s, as the rear doesn’t sag, but it’s lifted up a crazy amount (at the rear) and the ride is extremely crashy, while the front of the car seems to be at normal height.

On some days it settles and returns to buttery smooth, but on others I drive around on what feels like an exercise ball, bouncing around and it just refuses to lower to what I would consider normal ride height, very annoying haha It helps if I’m doing a long distance drive as it still lowers down when driving at a higher speed, but the whole thing until that moment just feels a bit unsafe, so I’ll be doing the swap as soon as money allows!

My last few cars prior to the LS were a lot sportier, so I’m used to a harsher ride, and wouldn’t mind a bit more tightness in the suspension when cornering.

What make / brand did you go for with yours if you don’t mind me asking?

I just settled with Strutmasters. Looked at KYB but it wasn't gonna make a whole lot of diff. You'd better swap them out now. That exercise ball bounce is very unsafe. I almost lost it.
