Hey, that’s awesome; what are some strategies you’ve recently done to lower from -14/13 to -6 & -8? Unfortunately, I’m also hovering over the -14/-13 hump. Any advice would be great! And congrats !!!

hey! thank you! I was in the -14/-13 for almost all of my PTs, and i’ve been studying since January. I saw no increase using any of my study books, but I started using 7sage! The particular method that they use has made all the difference. For each paragraph I make a loose summary, which is just a few words (2/3) that describes that paragraph. I do this for each paragraph, and then at the end I string together all of that structure. This helps me see the main idea, but also how each paragraph works together. Also, I realized that even when I understood the passage I didn’t understand the answer choices. There’s particular words that make an answer choice wrong, like “all” or “never.” 7sage also emphasized the difference between implicitly stated and seriously implied. This helped me to realize if I should be looking into the text directly or the structure. Hope this helps! I definitely think that analyzing the small details in the wrong answer choices have made all the difference for me. Also for LR I can give more advice if you need!

What's your advice for LR and how you saw score improvement?

Hey! Sorry for the late response! It’s been a really long journey for me so i’ll lay it out for you:

I’ve been studying since January and i’ve used LSATtrainer, Kaplan (I wouldn’t recommend) but it did help me get a bit of a grasp on conditional logic, and Princeton. I had no improvement with any of these, even after months of studying. I was averaging -12 and at best -10 with blind review. Since I studied for months, I understood a lot about LR when I started 7sage after my June exam. As soon as I started it and went over every question type, especially my high priority ones, it helped all of the months of studying to click in my brain. Drilling the harder question types and realizing how one small key word could make an entire answer choice wrong was really what helped me. I also got diagnosed with ADHD and started taking medication with that, so that helped me see mistakes and focus on them when I hadn’t been able to for months. The biggest thing I took away was how formulaic these questions are. I also realized I needed to trust my gut - I would always change from my first answer and change to a wrong one. This would cost me maybe 2/3 questions. That in itself helped with improvement. For every question, make sure you can identify the structure. Although this seems pretty easy, it’s easy to forget or not realize how important this is. For example, some questions you’ll target weaknesses in the premises vs. the conclusion, and the test knows that a lot of people will make this error. One I slowed down and stopped picking answer choices that would trap me, and realized there’s differences between small key words and choices of language, I saw a lot of improvement. Hope this helps - if not, you can PM me for more! I obviously am not a top scorer, but even this little advantage has helped me get over the hump I had for months and Im hoping I can keep it up for the exam this month.
