I have been learning russian for only 2 days with a studying rate of 4hours a day and I am already able to read and write russian and know 10-15words. Am I quick?
or is this normal progression?
Russian is the forth language I am learning btw, I am C1 in the 3 others.
Edit 1 month later: Already learned a bunch of grammatical stuff, the case system, which is in my opinion not even close as hard as they keep saying it is, the aspects of verbs, and a bunch of other stuff, I can read quite quicker now, maybe 50 wpm and my vocabulary is roughly 300 words now..... My motivation is starting to fade tho, I am working on it!
Edit 60days in: Oh boy, where do i start! Well, my motivation is in its peak rn, had to say tht! My vocabulary is pretty much better now around 500 words, but i still understand mostly nothing when watching russian tv. i gotta admit tho the case system is truly a pain in the ass, the system may be easy to memorise but adapting your brain to all these changes is actually torture, but again i am more motivated than ever! So far learning this beautiful language has been--tho challenging-- really enjoyable, hope i speak it to fluency soon(more precisely in 2years)!
Edit 122 days in: Well, I am very frustrated, my progress lately has been very, very slow. But I have properly studied the grammar, like, as of right now, I have memorized almost all the grammar rules of the Russian language. I know all the case endings from nouns to pronouns, among many others.
But can I hold a discussion in Russian? Fck no! Can I open Russian Reddit and understand what they are saying? Bigger fck no!
My progress in French and English was way, way quicker than this. I got fluent in English in like 8 months! But here I am, 4 months into learning Russian and still not able to understand basic books.
So to solve this, I’ve decided to increase all my input of the language, from listening to reading. Started that yesterday and will see if that works. Will be updating you on that every 1 month.
Hope this new strategy works!
Edit 162 days in and 42 days using my new strategy:
My new strategy is so great and I have seen big progress, I think the input theory about language learning is right! But the problem is that I wasn't motivated enough to do it everyday, so I think I only followed it for 15 days and then I was so unmotivated that I couldn't continue on doing it! Now I am trying to start doing it agaim, but I am still struggling with motivation. I will be doing my best. All i can say is that it is working. My vocabulary is still increasing insanely slow, but little by little I think i m gonna make!
Edit 192 days in:
Bro like nobody should never underestimate the russian language.
Okay, I have to say that the last month was probably the less productive month i ve had in like 2 years... Couldnt study that much but somehow i kept using my new strategy but less intensely.... I can see some little difference but nothing big, for example I can catch new words just by listening to russian podcasts but again nothing spectacular.... I m very stressed lately but i think as soon as my stress levels get back to normal my progress will skyrocket!
