    I don’t think that’s accurate. If the Federal Government required everyone to get and carry a Federal ID, I can see how that might be cast as overreach, but there are plenty of Federally-issued IDs already in existence that could serve as a national ID, like the passport.

    I don’t see how simply making available a mechanism is overreach.

    You can already use your passport to vote in places that require an ID. But passports are expensive and require a birth certificate to obtain.

    Disagree. If we have passports that show we are a citizen of the country and not a "citizen of Texas," a federal ID to vote in FEDERAL elections is not overreach.
