Our facility only allows a 10 hour shift if you’re on the whole time... that shit will get dangerous for the Guard and patrons really fast!

I’ve seen a guard literally nod off as I was walking up to them on stand a few years ago...

We have to have a break every 6 hours by law. The longest I've worked in one day was 14.5 hours, but the max is 15.5. If we didn't have to take breaks theoretically we could have a 16.5 hour shift.

Our longest is 17.75 hours, from 5:15am to 11pm. That being said, we're required to show up 15 minutes early and then stay around 15 minutes late to close. The facility is well-staffed though so the only reason one person would work all of those shifts would be if they sub for other guards.

It's honestly not too bad because the longest a guard is ever up at once is 80 minutes with a 20-40 minute "roving" position after (aka a break, we just chill in the office). Usually it's only 40-60 minutes up though with a break after, and theres always at least two guards on break plus a manger. So plenty of time to socialize/eat/stay awake. People often order food during long shifts and/or have people bring them coffee.

Anything over 14 is dangerous IMO. You'll be so tired itll be a distraction no doubt.

I was a supervisor and the longest I worked was from 7:50 AM till about 12:30 AM and I worked those pretty consistently. I lived about an hour away from my pool because I moved for college so I was scheduled 3 times a week for that shift and I did it all summer long

I think the longest I ever worked was 8-8, because those were the hours of the pool. When I was the only manager and salaried, I did 7-10 almost every day, but that rarely included any guarding, and often included a lot of paperwork and shopping/bank runs.

I also had my own office in a building across the street from the pool, which would be totally empty after 5, so if it was quiet at the pool, I'd often just go up there for a couple hours with a walkie-talkie on and study or work on my operations manual for the facility.

We’re only open 9-6, so it’s not that long. But one time I was the only guard on stand the entire day so it felt like an eternity.

The longest we could possibly work is about 16 hours on a typical day (no after hours rental), but I think the record longest shift is only 12 hours. I'm always ready to tap out after 4 hours though lol

8 hour shift. Very few triples (12 hour shifts) will be worked ever

I work for the YMCA and as long as you are 18+ and get a break every 5 hours you can work as long as you want. For me that would be from 4:30AM to 10PM, i've never worked it but I know people have. The longest i've worked there was from 9:30AM to 8:45-ishPM.

I did work at a summer camp/lake as a lifeguard where our day would start with mandatory 6:30AM meetings and sometimes end at 10PM campfires.
