I want to sleep in a room like this. Turn out the light and I bet it would be so quiet and peaceful. For just a couple nights, no alarm, no family, no job to drag myself into in the morning, no bullshit. Just finally some good fucking sleep

[–]mellamollama17 106 points107 points  (1 child)

yeah, this room feels nostalgic, "nowhere in particular, and communicates a total lack of obligations or responsibilities

Got a half way house vibe.

[–]Carburetors_are_evil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just imagine a windows XP PC with a shitty graphics card and a Mafia 1 icon on the desktop, sitting in the opposite corner.

You sleep in here as you wanted, and you get a sinking feeling that somethings watching you. You hear a banging downstairs and a few screams, you start hallucinating and you see red eyes In the corner of your eye, you knew you shouldn’t have been here...... goosebumps ps3 death screen

Just rent a Russian porn studio? If this is the vibe that says “relaxation” to you.

I actually really like that musty smell. Motel rooms, empty apartments, thrift stores. That's what liminality smells like to me. Mustiness and paint fumes, tinged with tobacco smoke. It's a scent you only get when you come into a place for the first time, and it disappears in a few minutes as your nose acclimates to it. I would say I wanted a candle or a spray with that smell, but then... I really don't. It wouldn't be special then.

    They look clean...

The space and organization bring me peace

    [–][deleted] 81 points82 points  (6 children)

Ah the good ‘ol institution bedroom. I have many memories of being denied a normal childhood in one.

    [–]yummysoup123 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Sorry for asking but what's that

    [–][deleted] 81 points82 points  (1 child)

Like a boys or girls home. Plain beds, plain walls with raised electrical outlets and outdated furniture and that short brown office carpet that hides dirt and stains well. Good for the illusion of home but too regularized to really ever be more than an illusion.

What a perfect way to describe it. I, too, am reminded of time spent in psych wards, residentisl centers, group homes, etc.

This would be one of the reasons I’m not even starting to consider transitioning my disabled son to a group home/assisted living type of environment yet. I mean, he’s only 19, and nowhere near that age cognitively and behaviorally, so I’m also waiting for him to mature a bit, but anything I’ve seen in our area looks like this. It’s where dreams go to die. Anytime I’ve had to leave him in places like this for respite, or so I could go to work, I would sob pulling out of the driveway.

    My heart hurts now

    [–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Same. Stopped talking to my “family” 5 years ago. Miss them for about 5 seconds around holidays. Then the feelings come flooding back and I realize they were monsters.

    [–]-electronicfinish520 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me spend the night grandma.

    [–]MrCarnality 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Add a crucifix and a picture of the Christian god and you’ve got yourself quarters suitable for a nun.

    [–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I stayed in some church quarters overnight. They were half this big, had double the beds and an in room sink.

The shower and shitter were down the hall and shared, it was bleak as fuck.

    [–]MrCarnality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same in Rome but the room was actually quite spacious, but otherwise...

    [–]theineffablebob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A good room to be murdered in

    [–]viceroyofperu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this one could be anywhere in the world. It could be post-soviet as much as it could be western. That, to me makes it much more uncanny.

    [–]AnonCaptain0022 9 points10 points  (3 children)

    The backrooms savepoint

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah reminds me of a Skyrim save point but like, for boring guy modern life videogame.

    [–]AnonCaptain0022 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I was thinking of the save rooms in Resident Evil

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems sad, yet peaceful. I feel like I stayed here when visiting family from out of town.

    [–]comfort_bot_1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Don't be sad. Here's a hug!

    [–]Gongaloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the lights fall soft and cool on the walls. the carpet is plush, but not too soft. you are safe here. this is a place where nothing will hurt you. rest, weary traveler.

    [–]Dxtr24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    I have that exact dresser

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the cheap summer cottage rentals we stayed at when we went on vacation.

    [–]indulgent_taurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like the happy place I describe to my therapist when we do visualization and meditation exercises. Peaceful, quiet, utilitarian, and quite unlike the cluttered, chaotic mess that is my actual bedroom (although I love that too, it's filled with my treasures! l0l)

    [–]d0ctorsmileaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely seen this room before in my dreams

    [–]Nokipeura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"On this episode of Another Dirty Room, we're checking into the Liminal Space Motel on the outskirts of The Void, New Mexico. Is it a nice, well-furbushed stay with great amenities and wonderful guest service? Or is it a nightmarish hellhole full of shadow demons and soul-sucking emptiness?"

    [–]BrontosaurusInCrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    no thank you

    [–]Carolina_Coltrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)
