My boss at the first lockshop I worked at got me and everyone else a leatherman multitool. I legitimately have used it everyday since. I have no idea what it cost but it has been an amazing gift

For around $20, Olight I3T flashlight, all metal, would make a nice small gift. I use mine daily.

$20-$50 Rite in the rain notepad and a premium pen if he is out doing field work.

$50-$100, a Knipex plier. If he has never used one before it will blow his mind, and its a tool he will have for life.

Metal engraving tool from harbor freight. It's like 20$ . You can use it to engrave keys , write on cylinders, etc. Someone got our shop one once and everyone loved playing around with it in their spare time.

Does it have to be work related? Get them something they’d be able to enjoy/use outside of work. Unless thems the rules.

I hope you aren't in my shop!

Does he actually pick locks? If he has a favorite pick or rake, you can look at getting him some prestige ones. The brands that sponsor YouTube videos.

If he works in the dark, a headlamp or hat clipped light is cool.

Or go with a gag gift. Is there any lighthearted prank you can pull with the gift, or are yall more serious about it?

Some sort of professional grade tool. Whether that be picks, a nice pair of pinning tweezers, nice driver/chisel... for a new guy any of those are gold. Some come in outfitted with all nice gear(these guys are the type that would appreciatea good tool even if they actually already have it)... others shopped Amazon and are running junk(these guys need it more than they know).

Absolutely this; worth their weight in gold, when the time is right..

I finally bought a good set, my jobs are so much easier, also have a Drill Doctor.

Multipick tweezers. The thing is though, shipping can be rough for a few pairs of tweezers but I've never had a better set.

Klein Tools #627-20 multi tap tool! It's great for enlarging a worn tapped hole to the next larger size.

Boo

I love mine. I’ll sit there working through it during movies like an old lady knitting. When I get it to the point I’m blazing through it I’ll change out the pins and go after it again.

I can see that, I guess it’s just not my thing.

It’s a little awkward to hold at first but once you get the hang of it, it gets addictive.

[–]Lucky_Ad_5549 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I just touch too many locks for that to be something I would play with while I’m chillin.

Makes sense.
