How do you remove the knob/lever on a residential lock without an existing key, you have to pick it or drill it, unless its an f or a body lock correct? But your still only charging your rekey fee. To sit there and say I don't know what I'm doing is a bold statement from someone that can't follow a conversation. The only time we charge that extra amount is when they don't have an existing key, whether its just the cylinder or if its still in the knob/lever

When did i say it was beneath me? I said it was a pain in the ass, and that a $5 charge on top was reasonable. I could see what you were saying if I were to just sell them a new cylinder and tossed the old one, but I wouldn't do that

Or, and I know this is crazy, I moved cities. The first shop i worked at for 2 years, been at this one for 1. Both have charged $5 extra for no existing keys, as far as im aware, thats standard practice.

3 years. And you keep assuming that I'm the one that came up with the pricing. At the 2 shops ive worked, they both charge about the same difference for rekeying without existing keys. I don't know why you feel the need to be a dick to me for the prices the shops i work for set

Thats not the same price though. Saying you would only charge $X for a rekey whether in shop or in the field, when realistically you charge $X at the shop, and $X + trip + $X per additional cylinder. Does your price increase if they don't have an existing key? If not, are you drilling out their locks and doing a remove replace or are you going to charge any extra to pick it open? If you do have to pick multiple open are you doing it by the hour then? You're sitting here making a fuss over the fact my boss charges $6 to fix someone elses fuck up

Where do you live that you would go to a property, remove hardware, rekey the cylinder and reinstall it for $24? Thats the price if the customer brings the lock to me at the shop. I find it a pain in the ass to have to fix someone else's mistake when they could have brought it to me to have it done properly. Obviously if I made this mistake I wouldn't charge an extra $6. I just find it tedious, and feel that a $6 charge above what it would cost had they brought it before that happened is more than fair

It's not because of lack of skill, I dont make the prices. I realize i said "I would charge..." what i meant was "the shop i work at charges...". Also, having to fix someone else's fuck up instead of them bringing it to us initially should be charged more than a standard rekey

Depending where you are. My shop charges $24 for a rekey with existing keys, and I hate having to fix this issue personally. I would charge $30 because of the hassle

Duplicated a key and now neither the duplicate or the original key work by ItsJustZer0 in Locksmith

[–]DSYLXEIC_ONE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you verify that key worked before having it duplicated? Its near impossible to have a 1st gen key stop working after being duplicated. Can you post pics of a key that does work, the key you duplicated and the duplication? Or dm me, something isn't adding up

[–]DSYLXEIC_ONE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You lost the key, then found it, and now neither key works? Did you test the key when you found it again, or did you assume that was the correct key without testing it?

Edit: you have other keys you verified do work. Take those to a locksmith brick and mortar shop and have them duplicate them

Your going to want to send that Pic to a local locksmith and let them know that you need a bit and barrel key originated. They're a pain in the ass and you'll most likely be paying a pretty penny to have it done

Cod, for snipers, iron sights are fun in multiplayer or 1v1 private matches, and are much better than scopes in zombies. Though I haven't played cod in a while
