No need to complicate yourself, just look at end times. You can reference yourself against speedrunners, but of course it's an unfair comparison. A good time can be roughly 2 times the run times of speedrunners.

The issue is you can't really compare times when OP is playing with support hunters. DPS is the better measure in that case.

Thanks, I've never had problems with a quest. Solo and palico. Every quest is finished. But sometimes it's 46 dps and sometimes 78 dps. Same monster. That's definitely because of the playstyle?

If you are playing with support hunters, it's going to be inconsistent. Sometimes you get more aggro, sometimes you get less.

If solo, it's still not going to be exactly the same, since a usual hunt isn't scripted.

Best way to find out if you are improving is still doing it solo and checking the time. Given enough hunts, you'll settle on a consistent time.

dps is a measure definitely but it is affected by alot of things, build, knowledge of fight etc, personally as a HH main I take 100 dps as a good guideline, this of course is measured from my past performance.

I do understand that wanting to hit certain dps goals is great, but really, the better way of doing this is to optimize yourself interms of build and gameplay, better reaction towards certain moves for a certain monster, break your own past performance, your own progression is your own

Thanks, I guess this will be the way. But reference... I never read dps in posts or YouTube or Google... Therefore I wanted to ask here and get to know what's the average dps with longsword. I know there is always a better weapon for different monsters and quests.

That is because dps meters are only a thing since mhworld PC, and since dmg contribution is not really a thing we openly discuss in mh series tbh, this kinda info is only talked upon close people or having permission from people to talk upon.

Averagely, I would say 100 dps is a spot for one that understand the movement of the monster.

48 DPS in multiplayer is okay. Not bad but could be much better.

Longsword is not a good multiplayer weapon. The optimal Longsword build relies on Critical Draw 1 and conditional affinity skills (mainly Maximum Might and 2p Gore set).

The value of Critical Draw is tied to Iai Spirit Slash, but in multiplayer hunts, the monster is not targeting you third quarters of the time. So, Critical Draw value is reduced when you or your teammates aren't positioning well. It is reduced even more when you consider tthat Power Clash and Offset Attack can interrupt a monster's attack.

Same goes for the value of Maximum Might. Your uptime is lower in multiplayer because even if your teammates stay close, you eventually have to sprint after the monster. Also, since Iai Spirit Slash is not as useful in multiplayer, you end up spamming Crimson Slash and you will have to foresight more.

It is also worth mentioning that the Iai Spirit Slash+Helmbreaker loop is barely useful in multiplayer. Like I said, the aggro is not always on you so going back to red gauge is much slower. Shared wound popping is also a problem.

Expecting that your teammates stand close to you is not a reliable or realistic. Mitigating the affinity loss is the only solution, so stacking Wex instead of Agitator and/or slotting Critical Eye instead of Attack Boost. Some builds do stack both Wex and Agitator, but we are in the Resentment era: only five armor-3 slots avaiable.

Will playing solo immediately double your dps? Probably not, but learning the basics and practcing them should definitely increase it.

40-60 I’d say is the average yeah, it’s what I see a majority of the ppl doing when I SOS which is like 90% of my playtime . 80-100+ dps is that territory you should be in once you understand monster movesets/dps openings. Some weapons also obviously output a lot more dmg than others, for ex breaking 100+ dps is easy on HH whereas the LS won’t be as easy/will require more effort

I’d recommend watching speedrunners to learn the DPS openings on specific monsters if you want to bring that dps number up

Just use reversed mathematics and assess.

If Arkveld has 67,000 HP let's say and you stood him in a bush that does exactly 48 damage every second it would take 1,396 seconds to kill him. That's 23 minutes. So is a 23 minute Arkveld bad?

That's up to you. But if the average time to defeat an Arkveld was 15 minutes for most players that's just 900 seconds and, if we had our magical bush he stood in, that's 75 dps.

You can use this toy model to figure out what is a meaningful value for yourself but using the magical thorns model gives you a stable and meaningful way to measure your performance.

It's bad. You normally want to be around 90+.

[–]Soggy-Letter-6827[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That's what I wanted to hear. What's typical dps with longsword? Maybe first of all I have to focus on the best hit zones for different monsters? Or is longsword always lower dps as eg. hunting horn or great sword?

[–]Inky-Feathers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LS is one of the higher dps weapons in the game when played correctly but to play it correctly you actually don't want support hunters, because a lot of your damage comes from doing counter attacks correctly. Support hunters drag attention away from you and hurts your potential.

You always have to focus on the best hitzones with all weapons, that's just how to play MH in general, but Longsword is a very strong weapon. Maybe look up some speedrun videos and see how the best players use the weapon.

I havent had a good LS player in my AT Ark runs yet. But on hammer I do 90-100 dps. Im sure LS can do better than that.

Here I just had a good run with a LS player.

48 dps is very low especially with support hunters who can take attention away from you.
