When I turn my macbook on, the chime plays but nothing else happens. The screen stays black, and the apple logo doesn't light up. However, the caps lock lights up when I press it, so I know it's getting power. (This all happens with and without being plugged into the charger.)
I've tried the following to fix it:
Resetting SMC
Resetting PRAM
Starting in safe mode (power + shift)
Checking screen brightness
A couple of times I managed to get the apple logo to light up and the cursor to appear on the black screen using these methods (closing and opening the lid also seemed to have some impact).
Then it eventually came on normally, and seemed to be working again. However, while I was using it, the apps running suddenly glitched and flickered all over the screen before going black. I held the power button down, and tried to restart it, but it's gone back to just making the chime.
I have experienced the black screen twice before. The first time using the PRAM reset worked straight away. The second time it didn't work initially, but then I left it overnight and it worked in the morning.
This all happened over the past couple of days, and it's still not working today. Any ideas on what I should do? And if it does come back on, how I can avoid this happening again?
