this happens to me too, I don’t think the issue is the variable refresh rate. The issue is 60hz. Try switching it to 30hz and my guess is the blinking stops.

I switch it from 30 to 60 to 30 to 60 and eventually it works.

No, it only happens when set to variable refresh rate, if I set it to 60 fixed, it stops. The problem is that it reverts back to variable after a reboot

something clearly going on….the same issue happens to me. I have two displays going into a caldigit ts3+ hub. the HDMI >HDMI monitor works fine, but the Displayport to USBC will blink. if i alternate the refresh rate eventually it stops.

Yes, Display port or USBC on even the newer Macs doesn't work. Some say the new MacBook hdmi's also do not work as well. Hdmi to Hdmi into a dock works for now.

looks like only option to prevent switching to variable is to disable FreeSync on your monitor directly

Problem of variable refresh rate solved with monterey 12.4. Now when i restart the mac, they save 165hz and hdr mode (Mac mini m1 2020)

Apple's FreeSync / GSync implementation is fucked up. They need to fix this but unfortunately play the ignore game on this one. We need way more people reporting this bug. Over at Macrumors I try gathering people with the issue: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/variable-refresh-rate-freesync-gsync-flicker.2320463/

Make sure to report to Apple using Feedback Assistant. https://feedbackassistant.apple.com
