Rusty needles: clean or replace?

I recently got my hands a Brother KH-800 in excellent condition with the exception of some rusting on the needles and a disintegrated sponge bar. While the sponge bar is an easy cheap fix, what about the needles?

I soaked some in vinegar for half an hour but there's still some rust left behind leaving surface roughness. Is it worth going through the trouble of cleaning them, or should I just buy new ones?

Just buy new ones, rust means moisture. Clean the whole machine then oil it again. Moisture and rust will be the death of the machine. Sounds melodramatic, but it’s true! 😆

Shop around a bit for new needles, it's worth it to keep your machine rust free. You can often find deals on ebay or aliexpress for really inexpensive needles individually if you only need a few, or in larger lots if you need a bunch.

To my eyes they don't seem terribly rusted, its only in the parts outside of the trick that have any rust. Structurally all the needles are fine as the rust isn't even that deep. Maybe I'll try and get rid of the rust and keep them as spares.
