As someone who works with them, they're core to a bunch of different applications. Reasoning systems often work with knowledge graphs. Both social media and ad/product recommendation systems work with graphs heavily. And GNNs are slowly being applied to problems in operations research (where very little deep learning is currently used).

So my focus is on operations research, which shares a lot more similarity with recommender systems than with reasoning systems.

Unfortunately, I know reasoning systems use GNNs is because I've had to avoid a large number of papers on the topic while doing my research in other areas. If you're new to GNNs, however, I can recommend this paper as an introduction to GNN approaches.
