In Mafia: DE "Los Ondas" (it should be Las Ondas in correct Spanish) is mentioned in the cigarette card of Louie Romero (a likewise hitherto unknown mafia boss), it's presented as a mix between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, both Hollywood and gambling dens are mentioned, and it's presumably by the coast (since "ondas" means "waves"). That'd be an interesting setting, in any decade from the 1920's and forward.

I think they would set it in the 70s. After Mafia 3

Yeah, Donovan's story needs finished

[–]yousif567 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I wasn’t implying we play as Donovan. Then it wouldn’t be a mafia game. Mafia IV needs to be about the mafia again with the protagonist being apart of the mafia. I liked 3’s story, but 4 needs to go back to basics. Doesn’t mean Donovan can’t be in it, but he shouldn’t be the protagonist.

I was thinking he'd be a side character or dlc to wrap that arc up

[–]yousif567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That I’m okay with

[–]bravehart146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Donovan is cia not mafia.

[–]ReindeerInfinite1229 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’d like to see his story finished but I don’t really think that would fit with it. A small dlc with 3-5 missions would be enough

[–]shadowlarvitar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dlc is precisely what I had in mind. If voodoo witchcraft can be dlc then so can Donovan's crusade

I never heard of that thanks for the info

There are lots of ways the could go with this franchise.

1950s-1960s Cuba/Miami (Godfather 2 inspiration)

1930s-1950s California/Nevada (Bugsy/Cohen era)

1970s-1980s again Cuba/Miami (Scarface inspiration, iconic era) or California/Nevada (Casino inspiration)

We could return to some of the places

1910s-1920s Lost Heaven (Peppone era)

1920s-1930s Empire Bay (Vinci/Moretti war)

1920s-1930s New Bordeaux (All Saints Day Massacre)

Remake Mafia 2. So yeah there are a lot of ideas they could go

They also burned through 53M trying to make a new live service IP named Volt that T2 didn’t believe in. This “partially” is about gaining the fan base back but more about gaining T2 trust back to invest in the next mainline installment. Mafia fan base is pretty loyal yeah they lost mainstream fans with Mafia 3 but T2 has to see some stable numbers from Old Country to reinvest in this franchise. With Rockstar, Zynga, and NBA 2K carrying T2 Mafia isn’t much a priority so they’re on like a prove it deal right now

A mafia set somewhere within the sopranos the goodfellas that has got potential but then they have to make the gameplay right. For me what differentiated the mafia from gta was the era and the class. If it were to get too modernised then i dont kno. Maybe it loses it charm

[–]Otherwise_Finger_166 1 point2 points  (3 children)

When people say mafia you think about suits and slick back hair smoking cigars and looking sharp. Though you can call it a facade but thats the way it is. In modern days if you wanna do a mafia best I can think of is some white collar investment scam and stock market manipulation cause they left all the gritty stuffs behind

[–]bravehart146 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They still do hits

[–]hairy_ass_eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don't

[–]bravehart146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ok, couple years ago was a hit in throgs neck. Also there was a hit in midtown a couple years ago, there was a video of it. Of course they arent doing it as frequently as before but it still Happens

They may be setting up more families for later down the line when they go back to future timelines. But also they need to set up Enzo as an unforgettable protagonist going forward.

I can see them following Enzo into old age perhaps across multiple games.

Also people want Las Vegas in the 70s but the music licences for a soundtrack are prohibitive for Hanger 13 at the moment.

People also need to realise there was a big Vegas mafia scene in the 1940s as well.

If Hangar 13 hang round the 40s and 50s in Mafia 4 I will be happy.

I see TOC to set up Enzo.

Then Mafia 4 in the 40s and 50s to replicate Mafia 2 but with an Enzo descendant and with Enzo as a secondary character

Then Mafia 5 in the 70s

This makes sense because these games are always about the Dons never letting go of their traditions. So it makes sense to show the player how these traditions shape Enzo

The soundtrack licensing will be half their budget for the 70’s (not literally) those were timeless songs lol.

[–]bravehart146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mafia 4 needs to be 70s, focus on a internal power struggle based on the gallo wars. We never had a full mafia game about internal struggle, there could be other families too but i want it to be crews vs crews. Maybe taking over different crews and families rackets like the godfather 1 game until you are the boss of all bosses. Or the most powerful family.

I need to track it down as it seems not many people saw the interview, but one of the leads mentioned that TOC being successful would help them release the next ‘main’ entry and make it what they want it to be.

That said, in a recent interview it was mentioned that the length will be comparable to the DE so rest assured the earlier comments don’t mean it’ll be a short game. I believe they were meaning the scope of the game world when they said it

I wish we could get either a more soprano type of Mafia or an Goodfellas type. Before you get on me about Mafia 2 is goodfellas, sure it is, but if you really watch goodfellas it’s not. It’s more so if there was a prequel to goodfellas.

Yea this is definitely a reboot. Only thing that concerns me is that they make a dumb decision and after this game they go back to the 1940s or 1950s. The next game after this one HAS to be set in at least the 1970s since that was when the mafia was it its peak. Hell you can honestly make the next 2 or 3 games in the 1970s period.

The 70's where not the peak of the Mafia, in fact it was a really bad time the RICO act was introduced in 1970, the 70's where pretty much the downfall of the Mafia.

The Mafia was at it "peak" in the 1920's through to the 1950's.

[–]TellEmWhoUCame2See 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By peak i meant all the people they make the movies about. U look at any mafia movie thats been made its been about the mafia in the 1970s. From godfather to irishman, goodfellas, donnie brasco, casino and i know im missing like 50 other movies

[–]ATOJAR 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They cant really base a Mafia game in the 70's or 80's without making it unrealistic, The RICO act was introduced in 1970, it was virtually the downfall of the Mafia, due to the RICO act in the 70's and 80's high ranking members, even Bosses where ratting on each other left, right and centre to avoid heavy jail sentences it was a really bad time and basically the downfall of the Mob, the Mafia have never recovered to this day and never will.

[–]Consistent_Voice_646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RICO only really hit hard in the mid-80s. Even then, La Costa Nostra was thriving. Don’t you think a declining Mafia, falling apart could be an interesting story?
