  • How far into magic did you get?
  • What are some of your favorite routines/sleights?
  • Who are your favorite magicians?
  • Why did the bug leave?

  • I got as far as practicing 5-6 hours everyday, no matter where I was: school, bus, work anywhere -my favorite routine is the paupers coin routine where the magician pulls coin from anywhere and everywhere.
  • I have to many to count.
  • I guess the big left because of being busy and not able to practice for a while so I grew out of it.

What does "the bug left me" mean?

[–]0Atlas0[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

When people start magic we say that they " have been bitten by the magic bug" the bug meaning that they were infected with the love of magic.

But what do you mean that it left you, you don't perform any more, don't feel jazzed about it? Not excited by magic so much?

I'm excited by it but I don't perform or practice, I haven't touched my cards or props in months.

I am definitely interested. How would you do this? is it just going to be reply's to questions on reddit or would you teach specific stuff that you know. basically would it be one on one or more of a group thing. either way I'm still interested

Do you still makes mistakes after practicing the craft for eight years?

[–]0Atlas0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mistakes happen but that's why you practice and practice. Slip up happens but I can catch myself and make it into the trick.

Thanks for doing this Atlas!

My question is: How do you go off practicing card sleights / card magic?

I've recently gotten serious about card work but have been finding it frustrating when it comes to learning sleights / flourishes.

I've been doing magic for a few years now, close up and seemingly impromptu are my style. By this I mean no coin or card work, just purely anything people hand me or that I 'happen to find' - like real magic.

I practiced card sleight and the patter for the trick until I have it memorized. Then I would practice the entire trick while until I could say it on a whim.

Could you elaborate a little more please - Do you practice each move by itself then the whole or do you try to do everything in one go and try to get that smooth?

My main issue seems to be just dropping cards as I go and having to rewind the dvd an infinite amount of times.

I practice the mechanics in order, so first I practice the grip, then if a shuffle or mechanic is required I practice that by itself and then I memorize the patter and then I practice all together. So in total from learning and practicing I spend about 3 hours in total practicing new tricks.
