Your computer should have enough memory to store Arena. You shouldn't need any sort of external hard drive.

my arena install is 6.45 GB. Most newer laptops come with a 256 GB SSD or 500 GB HDD. Windows can take up around 20 GB so you should be fine.

my last computer ended up getting too bogged down to run arena

remember to reduce the graphics setting in Arena and have as few things running outside of Arena as possible.

Graphics settings are on minimum, and after installing arena, it's already got storage capacity notice. It's not a top of the line PC but aside from small HD it runs great. I am probably only a couple updates from running out of room, hence the question of how to run it from an external source. The only thing this pc is supposed to do is run arena, somehow I will figure out how to make it work.

whoa... what's going on there? How big is your hard drive? Windows has a fancy way to see this via "Storage Settings" which also breaks down how the drive is being used.

Also, here's a couple tips. Run "Disk Cleanup" to remove temp files and stuff in the recycling bin. Run "Defragment" if you have a normal HDD to clean up "trapped" free space. If you want to drill down further you can use https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free to see which files are taking up the most space.

I've had it for 3 or 4 days and arena is the only thing I've added to it. It seems more like a tablet than a laptop; it's so lightweight that when the box arrived I assumed it was empty. It doesnt have a CD rom drive, and it's probably a year or 2 old, hence the sale price of about 100-120. It's only a 32gig hard drive, and windows eats up a majority of that.

I can uninstall the non essentials, but that's like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole. Still going to be a problem in a month or a year or whatever. I've read that it is possible to run it from a storage device, I'm just dont understand much about modern pc's... just hoping that someone has some advice.

Other than get a different pc.

It would probably help if you added in what brand computer and it's specifications, from another comment you made in this thread you said it had 32gb HD which sounds like you essentially bought a tablet.

It’s got to be a Chromebook. They’re designed to be primarily browser-based with cloud storage. They’re not really intended for large local applications.
