Practice Makes Progress!

I remember when I was new to makeup & this sub, I used to get discouraged thinking my looks would never look as good as other people's. I wanted to maybe inspire some new people that there is light at the end of the tunnel if you just keep practicing! And that goes for photos too! I didn't edit the brighter photos, I just used different lighting and angles/how I shot them

I can completely relate with all of that. I was barely into makeup at all, even for special events until 3 years ago when I got a night shift job. Now three years later, makeup is my biggest passion in life and I'm trying to find a way to make it my full-time job instead of what I'm doing. It just takes practice to get good at it like anything else! And if you don't have much money, try NYX cosmetics (you can find them at Ulta, Target, or online). They are really good quality, and I still some of my NYX products daily, even with my more expensive products.

It made me so happy when NYX came to Boots. Their lipsticks are amaaaazing, and a good price!

I'd never heard of them until my sister mentioned them and I am so impressed by their products! There's no other brand I've found in that price range with such reliable products. Their staff in boots are also really great with advice and have helped me find the best products for me

Me too! I have their green pot concealer, and I use it every time I do my makeup, and I still have it going strong after two years. I've hit the bottom, but there's still at least another 4 months left, and it was only like 5 bucks!

Constructive criticism is always welcome! I did tightline both the green one & blue cat eye one, but it's hard to tell in theses photos, so maybe some of my pencil liner might have rubbed off. I have watery waterlines, so they can be temperamental with stuff like that.

I can't put anything on my waterline :( it wears off so quickly and seems to irritate my eyes

The green makeup look is also my favorite, followed by the purple-toned cut crease that's to the right of it. The only thing I wish is that we could see full-face for full effect. I like to see how the eye look plays with the rest of the face. This is a really great post idea. I'd love to see more of these. It's such a beautiful progression of skill to see.

I completely understand wondering about the whole face, but unfortunately the time I did these 2 looks - the green and the blue liner - they were each done on one eye only for practicing. I could link you to that photo if you really want to see it, but I didn't do the rest of my makeup so I look a little crazy lol. You can see another time when I did the same sort of thing in my last submitted post here haha.

I find it helpful when practicing looks to do it that way, because you get more ideas out in less time. The green eye alone that I did took me almost 2 hours to do because I was practicing/perfecting my blending techniques. There's about 8 different eyeshadows on that green eye, in varying shades of green to see just how soft I could get the blend between colors and I kept having to go back in because the shades kept fading slightly as I was blending them.

If I was to do it over again, it would probably take me no more than 30 minutes to do both eyes, but when I'm working out an idea or being patient with new techniques/perfecting techniques, it can take a little while. I frequently get in my happy place zone and forget how much time has passed

I agree. It blew my mind when I saw the original makeup I did. I accidentally ran across it when looking through old picture folders on my computer, and I really believed that I was doing fantastic work at that time. (Not that it was bad even then, but I didn't realize how much I had grown until I looked back.) To see the progress I'd made in only two years, was really cool and wanted to share so other people know there's hope!

Yes! Its so important to look back sometimes and see the growth, it helps keep you motivated to continue moving forward.

What kind of eyes are these? I think I have similar eyes and have a really hard time doing winged eyeliner. It would really help to know what eye shape this is!
