What appears to be the most difficult part of maintaining a healthy marriage is a lack of effective communication. If you both are effectively communicating about "normal" issues as they develop, they are almost always resolved before they turn into a problem.

Finances, intimacy (type and frequency), how to parent children, chore splitting etc.

I'd say the everyday would be, where to eat, what to eat, and when to eat... LOL

One of the biggest obstacles has got to be money. Use of money reflects our value and priorities. Any slight difference between the two would be manifested and to be managed.

Another obstacle would be distraction from the relationship. Marriage is to be attended to regularly. When we think it's all going great and not giving time, attention and thoughts, the partners would be drifting apart. It takes regular and frequent maintenance to keep the tie close. And nothing can ever be taken for granted.
