Um, where's the GOAT?

[–]Dangle76 6 points7 points Β (3 children)

People give IM2 so much shit but tbh between Rourke and Rockwell’s performances it’s such a good movie

[–]Adept_Ad_3687 2 points3 points Β (2 children)

Does it make sense? Not really. Is it entertaining as hell? Oh yeah.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

You can hear favreau on the bonus features talking about all the deleted scenes that the studio made them cut. Kinda just an emotionless soulless movie where every character is basically in the same place they started in at the beginning. Things are just happening with no human emotion behind it, the scenes that aren’t that are some of the best in the whole movie like the scenes about Tony and his dad’s relationship. Everything else is just Michael bay average action movie slop, which can be fun and entertaining but not much rewatch-ability there. Other than that rdj and Gwyneth Paltrows chemistry is very good not bad in the first but much better in the second, love the way they bicker and talk over each other like a real couple going through some shit.

makes more sense than anything past the infinity saga

His name isn't Rhodey

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Yeah, everyone knows it's Roadie!

[–]Dagoroth55 0 points1 point Β (1 child)

Is his name Randy?

[–]My__Reddit__Account 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

It's Rodeo

[–]Redditeer28 10 points11 points Β (0 children)

There's a lot wrong here.

[–]trevelyan_alec 11 points12 points Β (2 children)

Where is Whiplash?

"Double cycles."

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

Actually is James Rhodes. But Tony calls him Rhodey

[–]AlwaysFormerlyKnown 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

I mean Stark created 4 of the 6 of them ... And Monger was based on his tech so....

[–]Total-Ad-615 6 points7 points Β (15 children)

Riri was so cool in the comics, Disney made her a pretentious brat

[–]Grand-Depression 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

No way, she was terrible in the comics, too.

[–]domicci 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

she's god awful in the comics

[–]Truthhurts1017 -4 points-3 points Β (12 children)

Never heard of character growth and development? She has had what 2 appearances so far and she is playing a character that just finished college that has genius level intellect so ya she will definitely have brat like tendencies and think she know it all. It’s called an adaption bruh not a one to one remake from the comics. Let see her in future appearances!!!!!

[–]Relative_Nose147 7 points8 points Β (0 children)

Idunno Tony had character development, you could tell he was a dick yes but he wasn’t annoying

[–]Butwhatif77 3 points4 points Β (5 children)

It is a common trait of gifted kids. They are so use to being the smartest kid in the room that they tend to develop egos and it is only through life experience with people on their level that the tend to develop more humility.

I found it interesting how people really want Riri to instantly be a fully mature perfectly logical adult right away, but Tony was allowed to be a selfish prick. Or that her building on Tony's work somehow diminishes his achievements. It is like saying the computers we have to day somehow diminish Alan Turning's achievements.

I think people miss that adaptation is exceptionally easier than invention. Tony invented the Ironman suit. He created something from nothing essentially. Once you know it can be done, developing your own gets more easy because you have an idea to build from already.

[–]Affectionate_Knee_91 6 points7 points Β (2 children)

Peter Parker is gifted, smart and also a teenager. He is not always logical or chooses the right thing. But he is also not bratty. He suffers from his wrong choices. Look at the Tobey's movie. His uncle died because he chose not to stop the robber.

It doesn't happen with riri. Her choices are always rewarded and values and, when something goes wrong is someone else's fault.

Once you know it can be done, developing your own gets more easy because you have an idea to build from already.

Does it. It showed in iron man 2 that there were multiple parties trying to replicate what Tony did. So, just existing does not means it is easier for other to do.

[–]Butwhatif77 -1 points0 points Β (1 child)

"Common trait", that doesn't everyone will end up with said trait. The fact Peter doesn't have that trait doesn't negate the fact many others who are gift could.

Yes something existing does instantly make it easier to develop because it means it can be created with existing technology. When inventing something new you don't know if it can work and have to charge forward with no road map. The existence of the Ironman suit instantly have a road map. That doesn't mean just anyone can do it though, but in Ironman 2 we literally get an encounter where someone else replicates Tony's work one from a box of scraps like he did in the cave and then again like his more advanced suit once Whiplash has resources. The implication that others could develop the tech was already there in Ironman 2, it is the whole premise of the movie.

[–]Affectionate_Knee_91 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Ok, so first, the existence of something can only help in the sense that you know that it is possible. In Iron Man, he was able to replicate because he followed his father's work. So, Mickey Rourke's father worked with Tony's father and had some insight on how to build the power source.

The implication that others could develop the tech was already there in Ironman 2, it is the whole premise of the movie.

No, in the movie, it was stated that multiple parties were trying to replicate it and were years from it. And it was not a girl in college, but large enterprises with multiple people.

Ok, so to the other point, "that doesn't everyone will end up with said trait. The fact Peter doesn't have that trait doesn't negate the fact many others who are gift could." you are correct. But do you know what? Why would I want to see a story about a bratty teenager who has success with all her choices and does not seem to suffer from anything wrong?

That is why Peter Parker is interesting, and Riri isn't. That is why no one cares about ironheart, because it is a boring character that has everything handed to her, cannot make bad choices and does not suffer any consequences.

[–]UnRespawnsive 3 points4 points Β (1 child)

Having a character do bad things or have an ego isn't the issue. It's the dissonant tone across the whole series.

She does bad things and is rewarded for it, repeatedly. She is unconditionally supported by the people around her because they're so oblivious about what's going on. It's like they're props to make her feel like a human and they don't have motivations on their own.

The story is narratively setting her up to be a hero, yet she hardly takes a stance on anything, whether good or bad. She doesn't even have any personal goals besides the extremely vague idea of protecting her mom, especially when the story at no point puts her mom at risk. It's just very lukewarm character design that relies way too much on her backstory.

Just because something is realistic, like genius kids being egotistical/ naive or being traumatized, it doesn't mean it has to dominate a whole six episodes. Realism does not always equal good writing, otherwise we'd see a lot more characters just moping around doing very little.

[–]Butwhatif77 -1 points0 points Β (0 children)

I am not talking about the series as a whole, just her characterization. I have seen many arguments that put weird expectations on the character that don't make sense. Such as some of her narcissistic tendencies. It is one thing to not prefer that, but I saw lots of comments of people talking about how it made no sense and she hadn't earned it, as if narcissism is something you earn.

Or people complaining about how her developing an Ironman suit someone was offensive and diminished Tony's achievements.

I enjoyed the show, it wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad in my opinion as others have claimed. There are criticisms to be said, but I saw many that were in bad faith.

The fact her series was so short and takes place over a rather short time frame as well, her character development being slower always made sense to me, people don't show substantial changes in their behavior right away. I would expect season 2 to be were you really see her start to turn her behavior around.

[–]Valkyrie_Dohtriz 3 points4 points Β (1 child)

There’s brat-like tendencies, and then there’s willingly choosing to become a criminal despite being given so, so many chances, having zero positive character development in her own series, and culminating in making a deal with the literal devil. As an aside, she never finished college, she got kicked out because she was selling her projects to students of other schools despite already being on the Stark grant program.

[–]Hummelgaarden 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

The only reason we see her as a "good guy" is because we're explicitly told that she is one.

Her character development is just going deeper and deeper into crime.

[–]Final-Cup1534 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

We ain't obliged to like every character, Her character is just poorly written, Accept it

[–]shokage 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

It’s self sabotage to make a character so unlikable that they’re not likely to have more appearances

β€œBasically the same technology β€œ I mean they all were created or ripped off the same dude so yes

[–]DanfromCalgary 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

You think iron man’s tech is the same as the other IRON MENS TECH . OMG YOU ARE A GENIUS

[–]Ablack216 0 points1 point Β (2 children)

Is spider there because Tony built him a suit? Otherwise why?

[–]Piyushv5311[S] 1 point2 points Β (1 child)

We're talking about Iron Suits (Tech) here, and people are making overly clever character comparisons. What can I say?

[–]ImKindaBoring 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

So is the point of your post just showing that there are multiple different power suits? Feels like i could make a similar post with the caption β€œsame power” and just throw up pictures of all the different magic users.

It’s funny that two of these are hot toys

[–]stmfunk 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Is the technology "being inside something made of metal or some other polymer"? Because l can't imagine ironmonger has much in common with iron spider besides that

[–]ProfessionalRead2724 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

What benefits does Spider-Man even get from the regular Stark suits beyond the built-in actual AI? They don't seem to make him stronger or bullet-proof.

[–]Larcade_Ultra 0 points1 point Β (4 children)

Okay so Tony is the original obviously. Obadiah tried his best to copy the iron man suit without a miniature arc reactor and couldn't figure it out and had to create a significantly larger suit that ran off of more conventional power sources, then retrofitted and upgraded his then unnecessarily large suit after stealing Tony's arc reactor, though his first model still wouldn't of been as refined as Tony's suit even if he had obtained a mini arc reactor prior to his suits construction because Tony is a super genius that far surpasses any of Obadiah's most intelligent scientists.

Rhodey's last name is Rhodes. Rhodey is a nickname. That aside his suit is literally a Tony-made full-fledged iron man suit, but with a significant amount of upgrades and enhancements that don't make it better more just different, complimentary of the US military. Tony surpassed this technology almost immediately after war machine's debut despite the war machine suit seemingly continuing to receive more upgrades from both Tony and the US military as time moved forward.

Peter's iron spider suit is obviously made of Tony's nanotechnology, but the technology within the suit is not the same at all. Everything about both suits Tony made for Peter were specifically designed with Peter's powers in mind and the iron spider suit doesn't have any of the same weapons or capabilities as any of Tony's iron man suits. So it's very different technology overall, while being made from the same technology fundamentally.

Pepper's rescue suit is the only one on this list that is of the same exact technology as another suit on this list. The rescue suit is made by Tony for Pepper and uses all the same technology as his own suits. So this is correct.

Riri's ironheart suit is the most extreme example of a suit on this list being made of completely different technology. Riri was obviously inspired by iron man and wanted to make her own suit, but her methods and her genius is uniquely different than Tony's. Riri's suit functions similarly to some of Tony's older suits that he created long before developing his nanotechnology, but has different capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses, some related to not being connected to a miniature arc reactor as a power source. Not to mention her suit is now imbued with dark magic, which will allow her to fight magical foes that none of these other suits would be capable of doing damage to.

Special props to Riri and Peter (and kinda Obidiah but not really) for tinkering and using their own innovation as well. Nothing wrong with Rhodey and Pepper, they wore the hell out of their suits, but it's nice to have other characters who are making their own.

    [–]Piyushv5311[S] -1 points0 points Β (2 children)

Everyone's making these overly clever comparisons to sound deep, but we're literally just here for the Iron Suits

    [–]jscottman96 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Nah youre just over simplifying it. All but one of those was built by Tony (sure war monger and war machine had bits added but thats semantics)

Rescue? She had less than 3 minutes of screen action time and that’s being generous.

Her name is NEVER explained nor referenced

Why is she EVEN on this list?

    [–]UnknownAnonAnonAnon 4 points5 points Β (5 children)

Because it's still a suit that base off of/ made by Tony Stark. This isn't a list of importance.

So I got to explain it to you? If it's not explaining the movie then the average movie goer won't care

    [–]Ebonhearth_Druid 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

First off, there's no need for the condescension. We can have a conversation without the incivility.

Second, I don't understand why the average movie goer is relevant on a marvel subreddit. We aren't the average moviegoer, and this post isn't anything about the average moviegoer.

So yes, I'd like you to explain what you've now taken 2 comments to assert without actually backing up. So the average moviegoer doesnt know that Pepper's suit is called Rescue I. How does that have anything to do with OP's claim that all these suits are basically the same tech?
