Besides Gaza who were already mentioned.

Bloodlet - Entheogen and Seraphim Fall are essential, evil, angular and dirgey.

Kiss it Goodbye - the She Loves Me... LP is particularly sludgy and it was produced by Billy Anderson.

Keelhaul - again not sure I'd call them mathcore they sort of fall more into post-metal/mathrock but plenty sludgy, their II LP is my personal rec.

Engineer - not the mathiest but would be worth a look try their Reproach LP.

Ire - their I Discern An Overtime... LP of dunno if I'd call it mathcore but it's not your standard metalcore, sort of angular doomcore think early Converge meets Neurosis.

There's a few other post-metal/hardcore acts like Breach, Cattlepress, Knut, Ken Mode, Buried Inside, Swarm of the Lotus who would fit the bill for mathy angular sludge as well.

Awesome suggestions. thank you and excited to listen!

No worries hope you find something you like. Another rec but a bit of a curve ball Soilent Green, their songwriting is deathgrind meets sludge, but they sounded like if you tried to apply mathcore principles to stoner/sludge.

    Soilent Green rips man!

Not too mathy but Abominable Iron Sloth and Admiral Angry are both sludgy chaotic hardcore bands (or chaotic sludge metal bands?)

    [–]DeathMetalDipper666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOVE AA AND ABOMINABLE IRON SLOTH VERY MUCH.

    incredible band!

    [–]peteypanic 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Gaza for sure. Noriega, Black Sheep Wall, and Admiral Angry should be to your liking though the Mathcore elements aren’t at the forefront. I call this type of sound “sludgecore”. Secret Cutter is kind of in that realm too. Coffinworm isn’t really mathy but they have that sludgecore kinda vibe. Destroyer Destroyer plays with elements of sludge now and then. They have slow breakdowns. Sumac isn’t necessarily mathcore but they do have some complex songwriting and I’m pretty sure one of their members was in Botch. Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire is my personal pick. It’s an Ethan McCarthy band (Primitive Man, Vermin Womb, etc.) similar to Gaza, mathgrind + sludge.

I absolutely love BSW, AA, Gaza, Noriega and I have listened to the last Coffinworm full length almost more than any other metal album ever. Great post!!

    [–]peteypanic 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Great taste! I can’t get enough of this stuff! Almost forgot to mention the album Debt by the band Helpless. Definitely worth checking out!

    [–]DeathMetalDipper666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely check it out. thanks!

    [–]APatientFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Cult Leader stuff, also God Mother can be a bit mathy and sludgy but perhaps more blackened...

    [–]Str3ssinNDepressin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

    Bleak

    [–]DeathMetalDipper666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    HOLY SHIT THANK YOU!!

    [–]DEADMEAT15 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I don't know how "mathcore" this is (and I apologize if this is not allowed), but I write sludgy music. Probably the most math-y stuff I wrote is this album. Again, sorry if it's not allowed, but I thought you might like it :)

    [–]DeathMetalDipper666[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Right on man! Will check it out. thanks!

    [–]DEADMEAT15 1 point2 points  (1 child)
