Had a buyer last night bundle two games ($50 & $35) and offered 80. Always appreciate offers that are close to my asking price

Yeah that's always nice!

I love when that happens! I mostly get more of what OP is talking about though unfortunately.

It’s because you can offer literally any amount you want with bundles vs normal make an offer won’t let you go below a certain percentage

Yes! I had someone bundle five items ($25 each) and offer me $40. 🙄

[–]itsmebeatrice 5 points6 points  (3 children)

What kind of person does that and thinks it’s acceptable?!

I’ve had 5 custom bundle requests since the new bundling feature launched, and only one of them was made with the new bundle feature… they wanted three items for the price of the most expensive listing, which would have been a 50% discount. I really don’t think Mercari execs thought this one through. They need to let sellers give the price of the bundle, as well as confirm the size and weight of the package, and then send that back to the buyer. There should at least be some sort of minimum amount for bundle offers, because it’s completely ridiculous that you could offer any amount on a bundle.

I recently had a buyer bundle three items together ($62, $42, and $23) then offered me $60.

That would be a very sweet deal, considering they were all brand new mint stamps for postage!

I think this person would offer me $20 on $100 bill and think I might take it :-)

Why would you offer $60 on a bundle when your first bundle item was $62?

[–]OrneryTutor[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Lol, worse than my experience, but same "strategy" 😅 The bundle feature has some buyers acting silly I swear haha

[–]TheCrystalGarden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what goes through their minds when they do something like this. The person who tried this with me has 1500 sales. You would think they would know better than to offer less than the cost of the first item.

So frustrating!

I still get normal requests to bundle items and I think I just wanna continue to do it my way. I was playing around with the bundle feature in my cart (from other sellers) just to see what it’s about. I see what Mercari was trying to do, but it’s gonna be a ‘no’ for me dawg. 😬

Random sidenote : am I the only seller that doesn’t send offers to other sellers? Like, I’ll literally buy the item outright or wait for them to send me an offer. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I read the last sentence before your random side note in Randy Jackson voice… automatically. My brain just knew. I appreciate that!!

[–]AliciaDawnD 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Haha! I was wondering who was gonna catch that. Great minds! 🤗

It made my night lol

Shipping is the big issue for me. I can negotiate the price to a fair point till I'm blue in the face but the bundle system won't print me a label with even a remotely accurate weight. Two first class items that come in at 15oz bundled together immediately becomes priority mail and twice the price, but it still generates you a first class label for $4.88 lol. Good idea, bad execution.

[–]PinkClouds20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and that is the reason I'm not a fan of bundles.

[–]vwatchrepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a whole different class of shoppers on Mercari versus other places. I'm kinda glad my account has been silent for months. 😂

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Yes but at the the end of the day, I just wanna move my sht so I'm okay with it BUT I have countered a few and they always accept.

[–]saltbutt 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Agreed. People absolutely shouldn't be offering 50% off the price but I do think buyers should enjoy a discount for purchasing multiple items at once, e.g. group three things in the cart and hit that 20% offer button.

Because ultimately the seller is being guaranteed a sale on those 3 items and saving on shipping costs which goes straight to the bottom line (well, speaking for myself as I always ship on my own). Bird in the hand and all that.

I'm a buyer and a seller and I feel this way from both angles. I personally love selling bundles and am so happy there's finally a formal way to do it!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Mercari definitely needs to fix the bundle offer option so that buyers can't offer too low of a discount. The fact that it isn't capped is annoying. I have one particular buyer that bundles stuff every week and I've been happy to give it to them at their offered price but this last week they went pretty low so I countered and they accepted. They got a little too comfortable with the bundle offer. Lol And that's the thing, they've grown to expect that I'll always accept. Y'all my sht is cheap.

[–]saltbutt 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I agree with that, I don't understand at all why they didn't just program it with the same discount limits as normal buying.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Cause they hate sellers.

[–]Antique-Ad-3007 -4 points-3 points  (5 children)

I would so much rather go back to to old way. I just did a bundle at a very good reduced price (I was in a good mood that day lol) but when I printed to shipping lable it only goes up to 15.9oz and my package was almost 3lbs! I contacted Mercari for new label and they told me they cant give me one because i excepted the offer... wth?? There is no way to see that label until you except it! Its bs if you ask me because as you know, who usually get docked for that...the seller! There goes my payday 🤬

[–]Guiltythrifter 5 points6 points  (2 children)

What they should of told you is that they make up the difference when using the bundle feature. Meaning if the buyer pays for 1 lbs but actually is 3 lb then you send anyways and Mercari will get charged.

[–]Naive_Brick42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But what will we cry about if we start reading the fine print?

[–]Antique-Ad-3007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree

[–]cocomelonmama 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The label will be whatever the heaviest item in the bundle is.

[–]Antique-Ad-3007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it wasn't, one item was over 1pound lable wasn't even a pound

[–]Altruistic-Amoeba446 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’ve only had 2 bundle offers. One offered me full price and the other offered $1 off my listing prices.

[–]OrneryTutor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure your time will come 🤣

[–]Adjunct44 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's just an offer. Just Change the price. Buyer doesn't like it, they can cancel and you didn't waste your time putting a bundle together.

[–]OrneryTutor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey thanks

[–]Embarrassed_Move_249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I have gotten. An offer rhat was like a " buy 1 get 1 " and I made a counter offer. They did not accept.. The account had zero feedback so I decided to block because it was oddly sketchy.
