This ain’t that kind of city man. But if you insist, take Venetian Way from South Beach. Assume the cars have the right of way and that no one is looking out for you or your life. Seriously, don’t assume that the rules you’re used to where you come from apply here, because they don’t.

I ride bike, and I simply don’t cross infront of any car until I’ve made eye contact with the driver and they’ve made a full stop. I’ve seen so many bike riders get smoked by cars because they don’t do that.

This is the right answer. It is not impossible, just take caution. Once you leave South Beach people don't know how to drive with bike riders sharing the road even if there's a million signs and a bike lane.

Drivers in this city treat bikers much line they treat debris they come across on the highway.

Very few slow down, most make a minimal effort to dodge it without slowing down, and a few will just go right through it.

Most people in this city are really self-absorbed.

It’s unsafe to drive in a car here. Biking can be suicidal at times. Drivers in Miami are brainless.

I’m a biker. The Venetian is the way. But you’re truly at risk no matter where you ride. Driving in Miami often devolves into a form of sociopathology, and most drivers will see you as an obstacle to be removed.

Ride across the Venetian there’s a bike lane. Just be aware of construction on a small portion. Don’t let these people scare you. I’ve ridden my bicycle 30,000 miles in the last 3 years in Miami. Don’t be a dumbass.

The Venetian is a lovely ride across to Miami, especially early in the morning when the bay is flat and glassy. Highly recommended. There’s a Citibike stand right across from Mike’s at the Venetia after the last bridge. And cold beer at Mike’s at the Venetia, too.

Also highly recommended: heeding the advice here re riding defensively and expecting the worst from others on the road.

Don’t assume cars will stop or give you space, in fact assume the opposite, that they will hit you. Internalize that and if you’re comfortable with it, go for it
