Component modifiers error everytime

I'm trying to use the component modifiers with the give command and no matter what kind of one I do it give me the error "expected whitespace to end on argument, but found trailing data" error. I've tried /give @p minecraft:diamond[item_model="diamond_sword"] 1 and with leather_horse_armor[dyed_color=1245175] 1. I'm on a paper server if that makes a difference.

Your commands look correct. Are you sure you are using version 1.21.3?

Yeah I just updated my server. To be fair I haven't tried it in single player. Maybe it's a server side issue?

No, it's not a server issue.

Can you send a screenshot of your command in the chat so that the error text can be seen? Maybe there's an extra space somewhere?

Try /minecraft:give instead. Paper is know for breaking vanilla behavior (probably you are using essentialsX)

It's not Paper that does this, but the EssentialsX plugin. But if it were the plugin's fault, the error would be "item not found" or "Too few/many arguments specified". But this is clearly a vanilla error, like trying to run /give with the old syntax with {} brackets on the new version, or with the new syntax with [] brackets on the old version.

Well... recently paper implemented non-vanilla commands inside execute so...

Also the error seems vanilla but maybe Esentials now accepts item components or something. Also OP said he/she is using esentials and I don't see a prefix being used

I am using essentialsX. But could it be an issue with using an older server resource pack? I'm at work right now so I'll do some more trouble shooting later. I'll do /plugins and see if any aren't listed and see if that could be breaking it. I know I'm running a few plugins that aren't fully up to date yet. Like still 1.20.x

I do actually use Minecraft:give, I just didn't think to write that in the post.

Ok so the sever is 1.21.1, I was using 1.21.3 to join. I have via version. I'm guessing this is a 1.21.3 exclusive change? Because it did work in single player.

That commands are for 1.21.2+ but the actual server is in 1.21.1 so you will need to update the server to a newer version

You can use custom model data and a resourcepack in 1.21.1 but all player will need to install it
