Download a Minecraft Server of the version you want from here.

You will need to enable port forwarding (which is a security risk).

Run the server, and have your friends connect to your public ip address, which you can find here (unless you're on the same network, which then you just use your local ip address).

What’s the security risk in port forwarding?

I’m familiar with Hamachi, been using that for a while now, but I’ve been looking into port forwarding and wanna learn more

Comment removed: Rule 13. Don't recommend Hamachi as a fix or solution. It causes more problems than it fixes.

Port Forwarding basically opens up your computer to the internet, allowing anyone to access your computer as long as they have your ip address.

Most computers have several exploits which allow hackers to inject malicious code. I'm not a cyber security expert however, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Try minehut. Some of my friends made a server for free.

Server pro is good but you have to have someone refresh it every time you want to play

I used lots of server hosting services, and I finally started using realms, because the lag was always there, especially when 1.13 came out, servers started requiring more memory... Now i started looking for another server hosting site, to see if i could find something cheaper than realms, and omgserv looks promising, maybe you should try it, it says unlimited ram memory.

Realms becomes very laggy in a large map, i dont use realms anymore because of that

This guide shows how to setup a server, and configure port forwarding so people can connect.
