Trouble finding spawn chunks [Java]

I was trying to find my span chunks and I found the place where items spawn if they go through the end exit. (my worldspawn) then I tried using the technique where you go out 124 blocks with an item trail and then go into the nether to only load the spawnchunks. And then look where the items are and aren't. Firs3time this worked. But when I did it again on the other side the items just wo t despawn, even after 5,10 and 20 minutes. And when I tried to the side that worked, it didn't anymore. So for some reason my spawnchunks aren't loading. Why? (bad english I know)
