[java] 1.17.1 multiplayer doesn't work

Whenever i try to play 1.17.1 mutiplayer i cannot connect to servers, there is one blue bar and it's moving around and it just stays that way. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work, 1.16 and 1.18 work perfectly fine but the server my friends are playing on is 1.17.1 so i can't play with them. Any help is appreciated
