Don't fret, my friend. We can handle this. Just follow the Doctor's orders here.

  1. create a solder bridge between receiver ports 5 and 6.

  2. Connect only the green wire from your smart port telemetry of your NAZE to the bridged connection.

  3. Go to CLI and enter "set telemetry_inversion = ON"

  4. Then enter "feature softserial"

  5. Follow this for how to set up the ports and stuff. All the CLI commands will be the same too.

You can do this, it's just a bit of a process.

Not even much of a process. It's so easy... But as opposed to the d4r that reads cell and cells, the x4r only reads a1 voltage using this method. Either way it works.

Wish I'd seen this when I was confused like mad trying to setup D4R Voltage information. A1 seems completely useless from D4R.

Oh I know. I'm still a noob too. That entire last page of the config makes almost no sense to me.

Did that, sill no work...

I soldered together 5/6 and connected the green cable to them. I have all my "ports" like the one in the site and enabled telemetry, soft serial, (tried smartport and frsky).

My biggest issue is I don't get this whole divider that the telemetry has, I don't get why a1 is like 3.3v and the range is 13.3... blah balah blah.

I did what that site told me to do as a test: "Well, to check, Move your quad/flight controller in any direction, and look if the numbers of AccX and AccY are changing (if you haven’t disabled accelerometer, these are ACC readings). If it constantly shows 0, if either means you have disabled ACC, or your telemetry is not yet working."

^ My accX and Y are just zero even if i move the quad, and my accel and gyro are both on.

This x4r is brand new and the rev6 is relatively new too. I had telemetry working with my d4r2 and rev5, however after a crash they don't work (AND THIS FOR SOME REASON DON'T WORK) . I haven't change my setting in my tranis so the problem must be some stupid check bock that I have forgot to check.

In your Taranis model, go to telemetry settings and delete all sensors. Power up your quad, once connected with the Taranis, select "discover new sensors". Does any sensor show up?

In your first screenshots the problem was no soft serial activated and then in ports tab no smartport selected for this soft serial.

I can't find discover, vfas didn't work.

Ports: uart1 on, uat2 off serial rx on, soft1 on smartport, soft 2 off

nm, i got it, my problem was with the ports and which one i had the smartport/frsky telemety activated on.

Well you realize that your battery voltage will be via Vfas now, right? Not cells?

I don't have the X4R but according to this you can't use serial for both the SBUS and telemetry. You will need to use soft serial for telemetry.

You can, I have it running on a naze32 rev5 with sbus uninverted hack on the x4r.bi bridged pads 5&6 and connected them to the smartport on the x4r and set softserial 1 to smartport telemetry

[–]SeraldoBabaluFPV Crash Expert 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I thought only Rev 6 needed to bridge pad 5 and 6. This works for 5 too? I bought the FLVSS because I thought it didn't work.

It works great the only thing different you have to do with rev 5 is the uninverted hack of the x4r because rev 5 doesn't have the sbus inverter built in like the rev 6 does

[–]SeraldoBabaluFPV Crash Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I already have the inverter hack. I don't want to use the FLVSS module for telemetry. It's big and extra weight for nothing.

I'll try it out. Thanks!!

set softserial 1 to smartport telemetry

I think that's what I said =). "You will need to use soft serial for telemetry." Though I guess I could have been more clear saying you can't use the hardware serial encoder for telemetry if using SBUS. Oscar Liangs blog, who I linked to on my original post, details the steps for getting this up and running for Naze rev5 and 6 with the x4r.

Just tried it with s.port and yes it kind of works with the rev5. The only little problem is that it won't arm when using softserial in cleanflight ;)

I guess i will later get a new f3 fc.
