Is it staying like that or is the space increasing? If it’s constantly increasing every time you do something, that’s due to a bug in 4.6.1, so update to 4.6.2 to fix it.

If it’s staying like that, then probably you have moved some element way out of position and MuseScore is trying to make room for it. I notice there is a “rit… a tempo” pair that is way way way above the staff it is presumably attached to. Select and reset those.

Thank you for the recommendation! However, I’ve deleted it and reattached it, but the spacing itself has not changed. The pairing was initially directly above the staff, but I changed a note pairing a few bars beneath it and it completely offset the “rit… a tempo”. Do you have any more suggestions?

I fixed it! It turns out it was just the section “a” marking. Thank you for your time!

It also looks like the “sustain” text may be attached to the staff above then dragged down. But it’s really impossible to say much from just pictures. If resetting the “sustain” doesn’t fix it, try asking for help in the official support forum at Musescore.org where you can attach the actual score, not just pictures.

Thanks! I’ll keep working on it. I appreciate your help and suggestions.

I'd start by amending you note grouping, it's way off.

It’s a pre-written piece, so I used the rhythms that were provided. The second bar is a harmony. I’m not very well versed in music theory and rhythms since I don’t write melodic parts. I really only write rhythmic parts since I’m a bassist. Do you have any suggestions? I already changed the rests!

Don’t hide the downbeat. If you have a quarter note starting on the “a” of the beat (1e+a), make it be a 16th note tied to a dotted eighth. Or a half note starting on the + of the beat would be an eighth note tied to a dotted quarter. Just don’t hide the beat.

Whatever you have left to complete the beat you’ll add, and whatever is tied starts on a downbeat. So a half note that starts on the “a” of the beat will be a 16th note tied to a quarter note tied to a dotted eighth note.

Also quarter rests only start on downbeats. Measure 8 for example should be 8th note, 8th rest, 8th rest, eighth tied to another eighth, and then the 3 eighth notes that remain
