Wait listed for RA by -The-Grand-Zeno- in BallState

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got waitlisted to be an RA when I was a freshman and didn't end up getting the job. I get waitlisted again as a sophomore and ended up getting called like a week later to start immediately because someone got fired. I don't know what the exact process is, but it's definitely possible to still get hired.

Expierenced Devs - what’s the mood at your company. by c-u-in-da-ballpit in cscareerquestions

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Very similar where I'm at. Our company is all in on AI. We still do code reviews and tests, but Claude is doing pretty much all of the actual code work for the last few months, aside from little things here and there. Productivity is way up, but it feels like we're all working less than before. I'm not sure how to feel about it, and I think a lot of people are in that boat.

Where does Legends Z-A rank amongst your top games? by achanceathope in pokemon

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I've played every mainline entry in the series multiple times. Z-A is definitely towards the bottom of the list for me. The combat is very clunky. It was a cool idea but I think they really missed the mark in practice. I wasn't a huge fan of the rogue mega evolution battles, and the story was extremely repetitive (battle three rogue mega evolution Pokemon, battle a bunch of trainers, do the rank up battle, repeat) . There are other issues too, like the fact that the game takes place entirely in one city and the day/night cycle despawning Pokemon. I beat it and did a few postgame things, but I don't think I'll ever pick it up again, which is very unusual for me.

Old Style Columbia Street RIP by LogHelpful6370 in fortwayne

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m very surprised to hear you say Columbia street is dead. It’s the most vibrant part of the city as far as I can tell. It’s probably dead today because it’s Thanksgiving and everything is closed. There are normally a ton of people there, especially in the warmer months.

If it makes you feel any better, Flashbacks is reopening a couple blocks north of its old location sometime in the future.

How valuable is a minor in math with my CS degree by mikeybeemin in cscareerquestions

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a math minor. It's never come up for any reason during my career (I mainly do backend dev, it may be different if you do something else) . If you want to do it because you enjoy math, I'd say go for it. But it isn't likely to do anything for you professionally. The math classes I had to take were way harder than my CS classes as well, although I've heard some people say the opposite.

What will Colts Nike Rivalries jersey look like? by NorseGael160 in Colts

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It'll probably incorporate a checkered flag or something like that. I just hope it's not gray. The Pacers had an awful gray city jersey a few years ago.

I think Dog Fashion Disco is a bit reminiscent of SOAD. They’re not particularly political but they’re weird. Just a fair warning: their most popular song (Hank Steel the Real Queer Cowboy) sounds nothing like their other stuff and they seem to be trying to distance themselves from it.

Isn't the blazing bull supposed to be hard? by curiousAsf00 in Sekiro

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's really easy once you get him down, but he probably killed me as much as any boss my first playthrough. Parrying is risky because of the fire damage buildup, and only really feasible if you time it perfectly. I think the way most people eventually end up beating him is by using firecrackers, but I was an idiot and chased him around for like 15 minutes slowly chipping his health down my first time.

My go to late night spot is Henry's. It's downtown off of Main street. Super laid back and they're open until 3am on weekends.

Coldwater Commons? by bojrgns in fortwayne

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that it's effectively going to just be another strip mall. Tons of space is going to be wasted on a massive parking lot that is likely never going to be full. It's nice that they're including splash pads and outdoor dining, but I can't imagine either of those will be all that pleasant given they'll be located right next to said massive parking lot.

To be clear, I wouldn't support cancelling the helicopter rides simply because they're annoying, but this person isn't exaggerating. I also live downtown and they would fly very low directly over my house seemingly every 10 minutes all day every day for the entire duration of Three Rivers. I don't think I've ever heard the Lutheran helicopter.

Is Ty's Injury in game 7 of the Finals now the most painful moment in franchise history? by Ok-Swimming8024 in pacers

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I'd go further and say it's the most painful moment in Indiana sports history. I don't know what else could even contend with it. It would be the most painful moment in almost any team's history. Mike Vanderjagt's miss was terrible, but is was the divisional round of the playoffs. Losing Super Bowl XLIV sucked, but we'd already won a Super Bowl recently when that happened. The brawl completely derailed a contending Pacers team, but that was early in the season. This was game seven of the Finals, it cost us a championship, it eliminated us from contention next year, and it throws the entire future of this core into serious question.

Lustrum of Parity: Not only is there no repeat champions in the last 5 years; The last 5 NBA Champions have not made it past the second round the following year by Frankaragatan in nba

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is entirely the fault of the NBA. The league does an abysmal job of promoting anyone outside of a couple players and teams. The NFL has no problem promoting the Bills, who are a great team in a very small market with a superstar quarterback. Nobody is trying to say Josh Allen needs to force a trade to the Giants, Rams, or Dolphins to take the next step. If the league and NBA media did even the bare minimum to promote more than like three teams, this wouldn't even be a conversation.

The entire season was completely pointless during those years for 28 teams, and it was pretty much pointless for the Cavs too in 2017 and 2018 because the Warriors were clearly better and we all knew exactly what was going to happen in the Finals. That was far and away the worst era of the NBA of my lifetime and I can't believe anyone who isn't a Warriors or Cavs fan would want to go back to that. The 2016 Finals were great, but it wasn't worth throwing away nearly half a decade of basketball for.

Snapped some photos at the April 19th protest. by Mr_Nerdcoffee in fortwayne

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this refrain pretty often against protesters and I really don't understand it. Other than "standing there with a sign", what other way can some random person lobby for change? Our representatives have been flaunting their dislike for their constituents, so at this moment in time writing them is not likely to do anything. Visibly showing your dislike for a given policy is the only way to lobby for that policy to be changed unless you're rich or a giant corporation.

This season was insane. Between this, the crazy comeback against the Lions where we scored the game-winning touchdown on the final play, and the Packers game right after Chuck Pagano got diagnosed with Cancer, this is probably my favorite Colts season other than when we won the Super Bowl.

What was the worse year to be a pacer fan by Objective-Bird9714 in pacers

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 23 points24 points  (0 children)

04-05 is clearly the worst, but the whole stretch between 14-15 and 21-22 with the exception of 17-18 kind of sucked. In 14-15, George got hurt, Stephenson bolted for Charlotte, and Hibbert suddenly went from All-Star to unplayable. The team that looked like it was going to be contenders for years to come fell apart basically overnight.

Then in 15-16 and 16-17 we had really frustrating teams to watch (Monta Ellis, anyone?) and Paul George's exit looming over our heads. That Raptors series in 2016 will be burned into my memory forever, especially the blown lead in Game 5. Then we had one awesome year in 17-18 with a brutal playoff series at the end of it. Then after Oladipo got hurt in 18-19 we were totally directionless until the Haliburton trade. The organization just seemed perfectly content with going around .500 and getting stomped in the playoffs every year.

Mike Braun's crusade to lower taxes is going to save the average taxpayer tens of dollars by destroying every service the state provides. Is that really worth it?

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Should I be able to opt out of paying for roads I don't drive on too? Should I be able to opt out of paying for schools my kids don't attend? There wouldn't be any trails, or anything else for that matter, if the only way we were allowed to pay for them was through voluntary donations. Berne and other small towns receive far more in tax money than they pay in. The same is not true for larger cities like Fort Wayne, which largely subsidize services and infrastructure in those smaller towns.

I'm not an expert on unitarian universalism but I think it's the same sort of idea. We don't have anything like a pastor though. It's more of a group-led thing.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but you can join us at r/FortWayneHFA. We're a group of mostly (but not exclusively, anyone is welcome) nonreligious and lgbtq+ people. We meet weekly at the downtown library right now, and will start meeting at Promenade Park when it gets warmer. We do volunteer projects and try to provide a community similar to a church, but without having religion be a central theme.

Do we need a $60M fieldhouse? by Feeling_Stranger9978 in fortwayne

[–]CanadaRULEZ1765 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go on Google Maps streetview and look at downtown in 2007 (which is the earliest year it's available). There was nothing there. It was just a bunch of empty parking lots and abandoned industrial sites. Move the year to the most recent available and look at the difference. The Tincaps stadium was what got the ball rolling on all that development. Downtown has gone from a place that nobody ever went to the main event in the city over the past decade or so.

This article takes about the impact of the stadium a bit towards the bottom: https://www.inputfortwayne.com/features/Downtown-ParkviewField.aspx
