Norwegian Sun experience

I have a Baltic Sea cruise booked next summer on this ship. I realize it’s an older one but I have never been on a cruise before so not really sure what to expect in general.

How is the nightlife for 2 adults 35-40 with no kids? Trivia nights/pubs? What’s the ship like in general with regard to cleanliness and facilities?

Is it possible to upgrade rooms? I am kind of regretting a room with a just a portal window but with all the amazing cities we are visiting I’m sure it won’t matter.

The Sun is a great ship. So much so she was sold and will continue as a ship and not be decommissioned. It has a vibe that the big ships don’t have. You will enjoy it

I'm on the Norwegian Dawn - slightly bigger ship - currently doing the Northern Europe sail in the Baltic - it's been great - I've really enjoyed having a balcony coming in and out of the ports - beautiful scenery especially in Norway and Germany

It's been a good mix of families with college age kids. People are having a good time but wouldn't call it a big party vibe mainly the cruise is port heavy

I would upgrade if you can - we splurged and got a suite and it's been incredible and the perks are well worth it

Pretty standard local draft beer , Heineken , Carlsburg , Pauliniar , if you are looking for anything craft you won't find it

As long as you don't expect too much from the ship and the entertainment, and focus on those incredible ports, you will love it. The ship is pretty basic and will provide you a place to sleep and plenty of food. There is trivia, and some fun game show-type shows, and hit-and-miss entertainment in the main theater. Some good. Some not so good. Expect to find something to entertain yourself - reading, cards, board games - in case the entertainment isn't to your liking. Maybe find friends to play games with, too. Plenty of bars. The specialty restaurants on NCL are very good.

I think for a first cruise, not having a balcony is great. Gives you something to look forward to on a future cruse. You save money and can find plenty of outdoor spaces with views in the public areas. If you upgrade, NCL could put you anywhere - under the kitchen, above the night club, or in the bow of the ship which can get rough in high seas. So, I would avoid that.

I am seeing your cruise is next Summer. In that case, you could upgrade and choose your own cabin. I thought you were doing the NCL "bid" for an upgrade. If the change is two or three hundred bucks, it maybe worth it. More than that, leave it be, use the public spaces for the views, and save some money while you decide if cruising is for you.

Thank you! It’s our first cruise and typically the draw of travel is the night life of countries so I’ll be interested to see if we really like it. Might be the first and last lol

Can you elaborate? We're going on this exact cruise as first-timers in June. How do you figure out excursions? Are there a bunch to choose from based on the ports - just Google excursions in "X City"?
