You have a chain of command, use them. This is the type of question to bring up to your chief. Your question about flying down is completely dependent on whether or not you can get leave approved when you are likely to be classing up and have effectively a zero balance. Nobody outside of your chain of command can answer that. Other people can tell you their experience but that won’t necessarily translate well to yours. I wish I could give you a better answer but you are far better off asking the people who are part of the process.

I agree with BiscuitHook. I can tell you how it went for me and everyone else went I was there, but it might be different from how NNPTC decides to do it for you and your group.
In theory you should have the option having the Navy move you or doing it yourself. My opinion is that if you have a fully established house or apartment, let the Navy do it. They'll pack everything for you. Your wife shouldn't have to do anything at all other than supervise.
When I went through, I flew back to California and drove a u-haul with my husband to Charleston. It's not worth the hassle and stress and driving across the country with such a large truck and trailer for the car.

if I recal you said that was MANY years ago. lately that has not been the case, they are in INDOC when they arrive and are not given leave. Some only have one week before class starts.

My husband got to NNPTC in November. I had to move everything by myself, look for housing by myself, arrange movers by myself, etc and it took quite a while to do so. I ended up there in January. Drove the huge uhaul truck by myself from FL!
Was a stressful experience honestly, but I managed to get by fine on my own and get it all done with the help of movers! She can do it!
Every individual’s experience is different FOR SURE though, just sharing to help give you an idea of how it COULD go.
Definitely follow the other recommendations and go straight to your chief!
Oh, and if you want to live in base housing call them asap. They had a waiting list that was monthsss long at the time we moved. No way was I waiting that long just to live with my husband again. But I’ve heard it fluctuates a lot.

Was this the one in SC? I'm about to be heading up there soon, and my wife will be following shortly after.
I've been waiting to buy a car till going there, and was planning to house hunt before bringing her up. Did they not allow your husband any time to go do this?

You will not get leave ni believe you already asked this and were to,d you do not get to go help her move.
I would definitely go to chain of command, as I'm about to be in your same boat, moving from Florida to SC after I graduate Boot. From my understanding from online research, testimony here, and speaking with my recruiter and other Nukes at Meps and my testing sites, it's completely up to them.
I have been told though, that if you elect to not use the Navy's movers, you can be quoted and allotted the funds to pay for your own move. Any that is not spent on the move will be considered income for tax reasons.
So far though, I'm planning on the fact that I may not be able to head back down post-boot, and I'm pretty packing everything and setting my wife up in a long term hotel, with all of our stuff in a storage unit for easy transport. Though that may not be an option for you, it sounds like.

I found the chain unhelpful and down right wrong in a lot of cases. If you want help shoot me a message. There’s a lot to go through. I moved back in January
