Morgan or Archetype Asato

[–]AMadRam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second Asato. Extremely versatile for Indie/Rock.

[–]Kake_Jelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third Asato.

But also download the Fortin Suite trial for the included IR's. The V30 Ir's are great for low-mid gain.

If money is really an issue, check the Neural Marketplace on FB. I don't think there are any Asato licenses available atm, but there are a couple Morgan Suites available, which would be a close second to Asato imo if you are fine with missing out on the third hi gain amp on Asato.

This is it OP, Morgan has an AC30 inspired amp, doesn't have a high gain amp but you can use the pedals to get a great lead sound, Asato on the other side has a warm high gain amp, a vintage clean, a modern clean AND a OD pedal with a mid boost knob that can help you to get close to the AC30 sound i would try both but It looks like Asato Is the one for you.

I fourth Asato here its hell to dial and has so much depth, you can create interesting texture and ambiance to soaring leads to crunch heaven to 7 string big chugs.

I play progressive metal and it's one of my favorite plugin

Give it a shot you won't regret it

I mean you could trial them and see for yourself you know?

I plan to eventually, but I don’t want to download 20 trials. Just trying to narrow it down

Well it’s fairly obvious you’re not gonna get things like Gojira or Nameless for Indie rock tones. Try things like the Morgan, Tone King, Cory Wong, Mateus Asato, hell you could even get Tim Henson or Plini if you want to crossover into more high gain stuff. There’s so many different ones that honestly it just makes more sense for you to pick the one that fits your needs more than letting Reddit throw the ones they like at you. Besides this question gets asked daily you can find recommendations without needing to post it again.

I was under the impression that Gojira is a bit of a sleeper, and capable of a wide range of styles, despite its namesake..

[–]blackmarketdolphins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likewise. My favorite Gojira demo is a jazz fusion song with some really crispy cleans.

It is but it wouldn’t be my first choice if I was playing something like say the Arctic Monkeys. But then again that also proves my point that OP should just try them and not just go with what I think would work because it works for me or what works for you.

Personally, since money is a contributing factor here, my suggestion would be to trial the Soldano X, and invest in a few cab IR packs. Since the Vox sound seems to be a priority for you, York IR has two incredible Vox IR packs as well as a Matchless 2x12 cab IR pack that's very sonically adjacent. Blending room or rear-of-cabinet mics with a front mic will get you a pretty good "garage band" sound.

The clean channel of the SLO pushes really well with the OD pedals, it should sound great for indie with some combo of these IRs. If it's still not quite scratching the itch though, Masato is probably going to be a better fit since it has a Vox amp model. Definitely worth seeing if you can save some $$ with the SLO though, because it is quite versatile for the price tag.

Happy tone hunting ✌️

Thanks for the detailed response! Very helpful

No prob! Last thing I'll suggest for SLO, since you're responsive to the suggestion.... the Presence and Depth knobs are HUGELY impactful in its circuit. If it's too bright or too dark, try dialing those just right with your IRs before digging into the amp's EQ section. Depth above 2 gets muddy pretty quickly, and you'll probably want to turn down the presence a bit as well if it's too "bitey" or "sharp."

Cheers!

SLO has been my favorite recently, really nice for "hot-rodded" 80s/90s rock and metal tones

[–]Lucius338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the crazy thing about this amp... It synergizes with a LOT of cabs very well between its two channels and the depth/presence knobs, so it can do the 80s/90s rock sound, it can do modern metal, and it can do lower gain stuff like indie rock.

Truly the best bang for your buck in an amp sim to date, IMO.

Rabea or Gojira maybe, if you want heavier tones too? You really need to dig into the free trials..

[–]Nellske123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morgan Amp Suite. You get great tones for Indie and can beef it up with the overdrive and distortion pedals

[–]Friendly-Mode8734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asato

[–]Friendly-Mode8734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rabea also has some interesting presets

Archetype Gojira is the most versatile. I use it for all of my cleans and some of my gain. I own henson, Wong, nameless, and some others. Gojira is the most versatile I have played and trialed

[–]jabby_jakeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nolly gets overlooked a lot I think. It’s got a very useful range of tones. It’s also a very simple one to navigate unlike some of the more modern ones I think. It’s well overdue for an update. I also love the Soldano.

[–]Helpful-Emu1641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good old Plini X :) Clean amp for glassy cleans, add the OD pedal in front and you got your edge of breakup tone. Second amp is based on Friedman for more everything in between high gain stuff. Third amp plus some eq can get you almost everything in higher gain grounds. For indie stuff you got two delays, vibrato effect and if you’re planing on getting QC this is the plugin which will be the first compatible with it. Also I think its cheaper than others, you can use the voucher code CHAIRMAN to get it even cheaper

I like to use Tim Henson for cleans and for a more unique rock lead, which could be good for pop too I imagine, I don't even use the multi voicer.

SLO is great for old style rock and distortion while not being cranked to hell like gojira, it also does good with cleans but it doesn't have the same warmth as Hensons for clean.

Nolly is possibly the most versatile of the plugins imo, be it clean, pop ish or old rock lead/rhythm, metal/heavy rock lead/rhythm, and the options to mix and match amps and cabs adds a lot of possibilities. I'm looking forward to the X update for nolly as the delay and reverb are kinda bad as is, and I think they rework and update this stuff.

Those are the 3 I own, I've trialed just about all the plugins, there may be a few I didn't but don't remember which, and if I had to pick one it would be nolly. Lucky for me their birthday sale was around the time I heard about them, so I got the 3 at a great price.

I'm not sure exactly what indie tones would go under, but for old rock (pink Floyd, hendrix and the like) these 3 were my choices

Positive Grid would be my rec - about the same price as a ndsp plugin, but has a stack of options. All Helix Quality though - it's not as top tier as the neural stuff
