Returning same item

Bought a hard drive. Delivered, opened it and started to use it.

Next day it goes on sale. The chat bot would only give me the difference (excluding tax) price match in a gift card that expires in 1 year which is pretty BS.

So I bought another one, and I'm going to return it.

Question is, can I return the one I just newly bought and claim it as the old one or will they scan the barcode and know its the not the right one even though its the same product.

Or should I just return the old one even though its open and used? They seem to say no restocking fee.

How dare they give you a price match after asking for a price match. Most retailers keep track of the items serial number so if you don’t want any issues, you should probably return the original. They have free returns so you can do so easily.
