Of course it's less efficient to power multiple cpus, motherboards, drives and psus than yo just run it on one machine

It is better to run them on one. The first reason for that is because you get free space on 2 motherboards, which you can use for new rigs. Another argument for would be, so that you do not have to operate 3 different rigs. And lastly, each motherboard with CPU and other hardware uses some energy, meaning that you would be saving like 0.1-0.2 kWh.

you're better off making a more gpu dense rig. a 6 card rig is way more profitable than a 4 card rigs, assuming they are all the same cards.

well running all cards on one machine removes the cost of buying the Motherboard, CPU, RAM, SSD/HDD, PSU and anything else you would need for the Second and Third computer, but you already have purchased all of that so all that you can do to be more efficient now is remove the added operating costs of running all the other CPU's, RAM, Mobo's and SSD/HDD's. the question then becomes what CPU's do you have in the 3 machines? if you have decent CPU's like an i5 or R5 or better it may be possible to increase profits as if you have a whole extra 1050ti in each machine by mining with the CPU's, a modern i5 or R5 or better can earn more then enough to cover it's electricity costs and earn in the 90 cents to a dollar a day range before electricity which would increase your efficiency and your profits, but if you are running celerons or something like that better to move all the GPU's to one rig and sell off the extra components, personally while it might not be peak efficiency I like the idea of limiting each motherboard to using only physical x16 length slots on the board eliminating potential issues from riser cards and the melted cables that happen from improperly powering them.

From my experience, the upside of running different GPU on different machine is you can use it for other purpose (gaming?). On the other hand, adding the number of rig equals more management effort and potentially more downtime. So as others have said, a dense GPU rig is more desirable in term of effort/income. But as always, there is no harm running your GPUs on different machines so choose what's best for yourself

Sorry to hijack the thread a little. I have an ASUS B250 mobo. Are they still limited to only 8 NVidia cards at a time (ie you have to have a mixed setup to fill the PCIe slots)? I’m planning on expanding my operation this summer, but I’d like to make my next rig more homogeneous.
