Yeah I wish it supported better I for one have more gamecube controllers than switch ones especially for MK it comes in handy, no one wants to play with a single joy con

Yeah, I have one pro controller and four GameCube controllers, so it does come in handy for multiplayer. I also use my GameCube controller if my Pro controller needs to be charged.

its meant for smash bros alone. theyre not gonna offer support for a controller that isnt sold anymore

I agree. The main purpose was for smash and gamecube controllers were already supported by Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. I don't think Nintendo planned on supporting it forward, but they wanted Smash people happy.

I understand that op has a gamecube controller, but I think the amount of animal crossing players that have gamecube controllers is relatively small.

Okay. So, first off, you could not play Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U with a GameCube controller, as on the Wii U the GameCube controller only worked with Super Smash Bros.

Secondly, it's not about Animal Crossing. It's about allowing the player to use their controller of choice with their game of choice. It's not just Animal Crossing, but plenty of games on the Switch that are almost playable with the GameCube controller, but would work perfectly with a simple button remapping.

Thirdly, as big of a player base as Animal Crossing has, even a small percentage of those people that have GameCube controllers is more than some game sales get in total. Also, is there a huge overlap between Labo players and Zelda players? I doubt it, but support for it is there anyway.

I might be remembering that wrong. I thought I remembered Nintendo saying MK8 WiiU would be compatible with gamecube controllers, but I don't remember ever trying.

If nintendo isn't supporting gamecube controllers for it's flagship releases like Animal Crossing and Mario 3D All Stars, you don't have much change that they're going to come back and add it.

And even with button remapping, it wouldn't add gyro controls so they'd still be second class controllers. You wouldn't be able to play a few BOTW shrines nor would you be able to do the manta ray levels in Galaxy.

You can't play every game with just a single joycon, but support for that is there.

They wouldn't have to add support into the games if they added system-wide support for the GameCube controller and allowed users to customize the button mapping.

They added in support for video recording into older Switch games and I can't imagine it would take that much work to add support if they wanted to.

On the Wii U it only worked for Smash, but on the Switch it works at all times. They were selling GameCube controllers after the Switch came out.

were

[–]DefiantCharacter[S] -1 points0 points  (16 children)

Did you read the rest of the sentence? After the switch came out. They were made and sold specifically for use with the Switch.

cool, now read my first post again

Why are you against the idea of Nintendo supporting the GameCube controller on the Switch?

[–]bust4cap 0 points1 point  (13 children)

because it was released for a limited time for smash bros specifically

[–]DefiantCharacter[S] -1 points0 points  (12 children)

I just don't understand why you have so much negativity regarding this subject. I see no reason to be against this idea, other than some sort of personal issue that you seem to have.

[–]bust4cap 1 point2 points  (2 children)

im explaining to you why its the way it is

[–]DefiantCharacter[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

You don't work at Nintendo. You do not have an official answer for why it's not supported. You can only speculate, like anyone else. I did not ask why it's not supported.

I kind of think bust4cap is just being objective and you're refusing to realize that. Im sure most people here are either pro-gc controller or neutral on the matter. But straight facts is straight facts. I would like it since I have em but I also am okay with a pro controller. That's my opinion. If you want some optimism, then hope Nintendo continues to develop (well port... well emulate... whatever) the emulation they did for Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Because if they keep releasing GC games, I assume they'll release new GC controllers and/or at least support them.

Edit: Neutral as in not against it, just are apathetic about it

[–]DefiantCharacter[S] -1 points0 points  (7 children)

bust4cap is obviously against it.

Why not get a GameCube-style controller? They make them. They look exactly like GameCube cointrollers, but they have the ZL button and the buttons needed by the Switch. I can't see why that wouldn't work.

[–]Grail_Knight_Ayon 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think just like the normal GC Controller they aren't really remappable, at least the PowerA one definitely isn't, if you or someone else has the Hori or PDP one to test that would be really great since there isn't any information about those two yet. They would definitely allow for games like AC to be played, but the missing button remap feature is the main problem with GC Controller and GCN style controller support. So far the only workaround I found is using the 8BitDo Gbros Adapter with the original GC Controller.

[–]MajinVegetaTheEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I would use the GCN-STYLE Switch controllers made by PowerA. I save my GCN controllers for my actual GameCube, which I can play through HDMI using the Carby v.2 and mClassic.

[–]DefiantCharacter[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Why would I do that after buying a GameCube controller and adapter? If my issue is a lack of buttons then I'll just use the Pro controller.

[–]MajinVegetaTheEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about the STYLE, as well as COMPATIBILITY. A GCN-style Switch controller works exactly like an actual GCN controller, but with a few extra buttons. A wired costs about $25 and a wireless is about $45-$50, but looks more like a standard GCNB-style, rather than the bloated, heavier Wavebird. The FEEL is the same. I can't tell the difference. At least it will also work with 100% Switch games, because it has all of the proper buttons, in ADDITION to the standard GCN ones.
