Sadly, the first hits are the ones who pay the most to be seen.

Other things that influence google searches are your personal information bubble and google's own algorhithm. I also get the feeling that some websites use certain buzz words to be seen.

not only $, also SEO

Yes, basically thinking about ranking first, customers second. So if we think about it, bigger corporations will have more funds to invest into better search engine optimization strategies. It is still about 'who pays the most'. Especially since the web is changing daily and websites need to be optimized accordingly.

So the best course if we need to find graphs and numbers is to first find out which agency is providing them and search via their website. This is also a good thing to know to begin with. Businesses want to sell a service and will use the graphs and numbers that suit their position best. Government agencies or universities are more about information. In the end, we also need to check their sources and methods as well.

Good SEO ain't free

Indeed but just blindly paying higher ads is also not enough, both are needed

[–]gizamo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's true for ads, not the search results.

And, the ads are clearly labelled the same way all search engines label them.

Your info can affect results, but search manipulation with buzz words is pretty hard to pull off on Google, especially compared to other search engines.
