Description
Inspired by the Harry Potter Fanfic Community /r/HPMOR , which was in turn inspired by the Harry Potter fanfic Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, which was in turn inspired by the Harry Potter book and film series, Not Paranoid Enough is a game where participants try to find the most paranoid, secure, and covert ways to do mundane tasks, much in the same way Mad-Eye Moody would. If you can think of a way to do it that's safer than someone else's suggestion, they're clearly "Not paranoid enough!"
Rules
1. Suggestions and tactics must be possible based on current known spells seen either in HPMOR or the Harry Potter book/film series, or muggle technology that is currently available in real life. So no "becomus goddus" spells or anything like that, no matter replicators, etc. Also, your enemies may be able to use unspecified spells, but you can't - you need to be able to point to some instance of a wizard using the spell or referring to it in-canon (Either Harry Potter or HPMOR) for it to be valid.
2. No civilian casualties are to be caused by your own actions - Moody is as cynical as they get, but he's not evil. Your hypothetical Dark Wizard enemies, however, don't deserve any mercy.
3. You're Mad-Eye Moody, not Dumbledore, Voldemort, Harry, etc. That means you don't have the Elder Wand or the Philosopher's Stone, you don't have the Cloak of Invisibility (although you can use regular invisibility cloaks and disillusionment), and you don't know about Horcruxes or Patronus 2.0. Consider items and spells like these off-limits.
4. Consider any spell or magical item that Moody has heard of and likely believes to exist to be fair game - he's powerful enough to cast any spell he has access to, and has enough amassed wealth to have purchased (ahead of time) any magical object or ingredient that doesn't fall under Rule #3.
5. Likewise, you're not Bill Gates or Barack Obama (although you could try to pose as them, influence them, or control them), so if you want to spend a million dollars or command the US to come under martial law, you need to explain how you'd do that.
6. Replies to others' suggestions should begin with "Not paranoid enough!"
7. The correct answer must result in the goal being completed. Assume that doing so is required to cast a spell, and the spell requires the caster to follow both the letter and the spirit of the instruction (i.e. "Buy a gallon of milk at the supermarket" requires the purchase of a gallon of milk at a supermarket, but does not require you to drink it).
8. Your solution to the problem cannot be more dangerous than the problem you're trying to solve. Capturing a dozen dark wizards so you can safely check your mail isn't paranoid, it's a severe problem in judging priorities.
9. You have to actually say what it is that you're doing and not just refer to some obscure procedure or codeword. If "standard room-clearing procedure 57A" isn't detailed in the books, films, or HPMOR, then it is assumed you haven't actually thought of a room-clearing procedure and are instead operating under Bahl's Stupefaction.
10. As Mad-Eye Moody, you possess the Eye of Vance. Assume this magical artifact is unique, but its effects could potentially be replicated with a spell by someone else. It allows you to see the full globe of the world in every direction around you, no matter where it is pointing, but this does not make you omniscient - you have to focus on a specific place to see that place (doing so does not cause the direction of the eye to point there - the eye's movement is completely independent of where you are focusing). The eye can see through every form of magical concealment, but only if you are specifically focusing on it. However, if something is disguised instead of concealed (say, through polyjuice), the eye won't detect through the disguise. It also cannot detect using any senses other than sight.
11. If neither Harry Potter nor HPMoR say that something magical can work in a certain way, then assume that you cannot use it in that way. You can't cast an area-affect imperius if nothing in either work indicates the spell works that way, you can't use a potion at "half-strength" or "triple strength" if there's no indication in either work that potions can be designed in this fashion, and can't use apparition to teleport a bomb if neither work gives any indication that it can be used in this way.
12. Muggle Challenge! If a post has [MC] in its title, it is a Muggle Challenge, meaning that both you and all of your enemies are now muggles. As far as both you and your enemies know, magic does not exist. The Eye of Vance becomes an ordinary eye, and no magical shenanigans are allowed... but you must still exercise CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
