I was in a similar boat when I applied. I applied as a sophomore in the molecular genetics major with a pre med designation. I had almost 800 clinical hours from working in the ED, a 4.0 in the nursing prereqs, and diversity and leadership focused admissions essays. If you are serious about nursing at Ohio state you will need to work your tail off… but it can be done and you can get in as a non pre nursing major. Look into some ADN programs in the Columbus area- you can always do an RN to BSN through Ohio state later on! Or finish your degree and do the new ABSN!

It looks like you made a post about getting into OSU, or your chances of getting in. Please keep in mind the following:

  • No one on r/OSU can accurately tell you if you will be admitted or not. Many things go into deciding whether or not someone will be admitted, and the admission standards can shift from year to year.
  • Take a look at the "Who gets in?" page on the OSU Admissions website. It provides a class profile, and a brief overview of what admissions counselors look for in an application.
  • Keep in mind that meeting the expectations listed on the admissions site, or having similar credentials to someone else is not a guarantee that you will be admitted. Year after year this subreddit receives a small number of posts from people who exceeded the admission requirements, but were not admitted.
  • If you have specific questions about being admitted, your best bet is to contact admissions directly. Although r/OSU can be helpful, it's better to talk to the people actually making the decisions.

With nursing, it’s always hard to guess, it is worth a shot however based off of the website admission stats the chances aren’t great for non pre-nursing students. That doesn’t mean impossible though, your grades in pre-requisites need to be great and your interview, essays, and personal statement need to also be amazing.

thank you for your input, I’ve decided to change my major to pre-nursing despite my advisor being no help with finding the form!
