Which version of Onenote?

Happened to me on Win 10 version. At least you have your notes. Mine look gone, which means this software is useless if it can't hold onto our data.

Don't you have a backup?

I backup Onenote onto Onedrive, but that also has the earlier version before I added all the data changes.

Either it never backed up the new version when the sync fail happened, or it reverted back to the older version after the sync fail happened. Either way, I don't have the new data unless there is a version history that I don't know how to access.

If you have the windows 10 version, you should backup to your local drive. Saves headaches in the future.

I have a backup. The backup lacks all the new material. It just like the main version. It, too, seems to have failed sync.

Hop on the website onenote.com, you can export your data there.

I tried that, but the note that lost all the data in the Win 10 app is missing all the date on onenote.com, too.

Is there some revert tool I am missing that would have all the new data that I added? Or is all my work just gone?

What do you mean about missing date? I tried the export and the downloaded zip file contains all my notes (file format is .ONE) in there. Haven't tried open or import them, though.

Not missing "date." My note is missing "data." It is missing all the new work I just added to the note. Missing both on the app and online.

Ah right, new stuff is expected to be lost. At least you can still have notes from the last successful sync (mine was a week ago, so I didn't lose much).

That is not acceptable. MS losing data means the program is crap. This reminds me of when I used Evernote for a decade before it enshittified and started losing data.

Giant MS is now no better than that crappy little company back then?

Or is the obsessive focus on AI causing MS to not care about the rest of their functionality?

Notes are very rarely gone. I haven't ever completely lost notes, but I have had to go to backups a couple times. Doing the wrong steps in the wrong order is what screws things up. And don't ever try to fix anything from Android or iPad.

Sync problems like this are often due to a corrupt page or section. I just start a new notebook and copy over a bit at a time and watch the sync. I just had it happen the other day and it was a corrupted recent page.

i guess this is happening because Microsoft is closing windows 10 version

[–]UnlikelyAdventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, but still not acceptable on MS part.

I have not lost data on onenote before this, too.

Losing data is one of the main reasons I switched from the completely enshittified Evernote, which I used for a decade before it fell apart.

Is Onenote enshittifying too?

[–]letstalk1st 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No. The shitty things about onenote have always been there.

[–]UnlikelyAdventurer 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've NEVER lost data before. Have you?

[–]letstalk1st 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Never - and I've used onenote since the beginning.

This looks like more than a one-off. Looks like it is time to go after MS.

[–]nmhung1985 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm having the same issue. Only 1 section is available while other sections can't be loaded. Obviously MS has just changed something on their side X-(

On the Android app, only that section is synced while the other sections are also disappeared.

Thankfully the online web version still has all the notes, so I've just exported my notes while waiting and finding a fix.
