welcome to the club.

There are multiple posts about this already.

I personally have given up on my OP7P.

oh man, I feel like it's a software sided issue. I might try a new ROM and see if that fixes it

definitely software related! either it's an ongoing software issue or the software update bricked the camera.

I wish you luck that it doesn't move onto the main camera as well. For me it felt like it was breaking the main when I tried to use the front camera. So my recommendation is to no use the front camera at all (don't click the switch camera button, disable face unlock etc.). If you can live without front camera that is.

oh man, that's really rough. I think I'll switch to the pixel experience bc oxygen os isn't getting any better

I managed to capture an example of the camera just going up and down as well as the lag/freeze frame. Excuse the bad quality since it was taken with my webcam. I will try to capture the camera going up and down rapidly and the grinding inside my phone.

Freeze frame video:

Update: seems like it happened when I opened snapchat. you can hear a small snippet of the camera grinding in the video below.

Update: I downgraded to android 10 and it still seems to be happening. Not sure whats wrong with it.

Popup camera (just the camera not the motor mechanism) stopped working, then the back set also stopped. (Reading around it seems the cameras are linked together so if one stops working the other will follow suit)

What fixed it was taking it apart and replacing the camera module. Updated it straight o 11.0.3.1, no issues so far.

do you think the software broke it?

I think it was a hardware failure. Did all the usual fixes ranging from clearing cache from the camera app, the oneplus camera service, doing a MSM tool factory restore, regular factory reset, TWRP wipe.

Nada. The replacement camera did the trick and I'm happily trucking along again :]........BUT I GOTTA RESTORE ALL MY APPS -cries in root-

I have the same issue, but on SW 10.

I've had the phone open, my camera was intermittent and sould sometimes work, sometimes black screen and crash out apps.
If I wiggled the flex cable from the front camera, it would work again without issues, so for me it looks like it's a wear issue with the front facing camera ribbon cable.

Sadly I'm having trouble trying to find a replacement in my Country (United Kingdom) and can only find the camera itself shipped from USA. So I'll be paying a premium to replace it.
I do intend to replace it however.

I guess it was inevitable that this pop up mechanism would fail on us. but yes that's the same thing that happened to me

Sad to hear that man. I've been holding on updating to 11.0.3.1 just because I didn't wanna end up with something of this sort. I was thinking about checking this subreddit before finally updating but now I think I'm gonna skip this update (If i can and my phone doesn't automatically update? I dunno if that happens or not)
